Charles DarwinNaturalist who traveled the HMS Beagle to

the Galapagos Islands and discovered finches…The finches all had similarities but different

beaks due to the different types of foods they ate.

The finches changed because of speciation.

EvolutionInherited changes in a population over

time. Evidence that supports evolution:

Adaptations!Structures and behaviors that help an

organism find food, protection, and move from place to place.

Selective BreedingOrganisms with favorable traits being bred

for those specific traits.

Selective Breeding vs. Natural Selection

Natural selection occurs when population members with advantageous traits are able to survive and reproduce. They pass on their advantageous traits to their offspring. Selective breeding occurs when humans breed individuals with desirable traits in order to create offspring with the same desirable traits.
