(1) Agassiz House holds the Harvard College Admissions Office Visitor Center as well as a 330-seat theater that hosts various student-directed theater, dance, and orchestral performances. (2) The Science Center contains several academic departments, five major lecture halls, dozens of classrooms, an observatory, and the Cabot Science Library. (3) Memorial Hall is a Gothic-style brick build-ing. Inside, Annenberg Hall is used as a dining hall that serves first-year students. Memorial Hall also contains the 1,000-seat Sanders Theatre, famous for its design and acoustics. (4) Oxford Street and Divinity Avenue hold several major laboratories, academic depart-ments, and museums, including the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology and the Harvard University Herbaria.
(5) The Harvard University Art Museums house a world-class collection of approximately 150,000 works of art.(6) The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts is the only building in North America designed by Le Corbusier. It
is home to the Department of Art, Film and Visual Studies, and the Harvard Film Archive.(7) The Barker Center is the headquarters for the humanities, housing a dozen academic departments. (8) Tercentenary Theatre is an open space in which Commencement ceremonies take place. It contains Memorial Church, which was originally built in 1932 to honor Harvard students and alumni who fought in World War I. It also holds (9) Widener Library, a memorial to the Harvard alumnus Harry Elkins Widener who died aboard the Titanic, and Sever Hall, a classroom building built in 1878 and designed by H.H. Richardson.
(10) The Old Yard is the oldest part of Harvard’s campus, with first references to its existence appearing in 1639. Now, most of the structures within the Old Yard are first-year dorms. University Hall now houses the offices of the Deans of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, including the Dean of Harvard College. (11) The John Harvard Statue faces (12) Johnston Gate, the main entrance to the Old Yard. The College was founded by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1636 and named “New College.” A local clergyman, John Harvard, bequeathed half of his estate and entire library, and the “New College” was renamed in his honor. (13) Harvard Square serves as the center of student life in
Cambridge. Bookstores, restau-rants, cafés, and an assortment of specialty shops line the red brick sidewalks.(14) The Coop is a bookstore in Harvard Square that sells books, gifts, and Harvard apparel.
(15) The Richard A. and Susan F. Smith Campus Center is dedicated to enhancing student life. It contains space for study and gatherings, in addition to the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion. Numerous restaurants and cafes and the Harvard Visitor Center are open to the public.(16) The Malkin Athletic Center (MAC) Quad is located between several of the residential Houses (dorm complexes for upper-level Harvard College students). It holds the University's primary recreation facility.(17) Weld Boathouse, the home of Radcliffe crew, forms a deep part of the team's tradition. Built in 1906, it is an architectural highlight at Harvard and part of the rowing legacy of the Charles River.

The Soldiers Field Athletic Area serves all Harvard undergrad-uates. The facilities are used by individual students, club and intramural teams, as well as the athletes who compete on Harvard’s forty-two varsity teams, the largest number offered by any college.(18) The Lavietes Pavilion opened in 1926 and is the second-old-est building used for basketball among Division I schools. It has a seating capacity of 1,636.(19) The Bright-Landry Hockey Center has a seating capacity of 3,095. It was dedicated on November 19, 1979, when Harvard hosted the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.(20) The Gordon Indoor Track is the host of numerous meets each season, including in recent years the ECAC and IC4A Championships.(21) The Harvard Stadium was built in 1903 and hosts home games for the Harvard Football Team. It is the nation’s oldest stadium.
(22) The Murr Center houses state-of-the-art facilities for the squash and tennis teams as well as the intercollegiate sports department’s administration.(23) O’Donnell Field is widely regarded as the finest baseball field in all of New England. It seats 1,600.(24) The ArtLab is a nearly 9,000-square-foot building that sup-ports members of the Harvard community in artistic innovation.(25) The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences is located in Cambridge and Allston. Its 500,000-square-foot Allston complex (opening spring 2021) will house laboratories, classrooms, a maker space, and more.(26) Harvard Innovation Labs, which foster entrepreneurship and innovation across Harvard University, include the Pagliuca Life Lab and the Launch Lab X.
