What is irony?

Identify each example of iron in Ironic.

Verbal Irony:

Verbal Irony: A statement in which the meaning that a speaker intends is sharply different from the stated meaning. Sarcasm.

Verbal Irony: He yelled, “I’m not upset!” as he slung the lamp at the wall.

Dramatic Irony:

Dramatic Irony:Audience is aware of more than the characters in the story. Creates a strong sense of anticipation, but is eventually resolved.

Dramatic Irony:-The other characters in the cast of Romeo & Juliet think Juliet is dead, but the audience knows she only took sleeping potion.-Lois is in love with Superman, not Clark.

Situational Irony:

Situational Irony: The outcome is different from what is expected- perverse appropriateness.

Situational Irony: Hinckley attempts to assassinate Reagan. All shots missed, but a bullet deflected off the bulletproof glass, and struck the president.
