3rd Blockchain for Finance Conference, Europe October 2-4, Dublin, Ireland
Alastria is a non-profit association that
promotes the digital economy in Spain
through the development of blockchain.
Alastria is a point of confluence.
DIGITAL ECONOMY

blockchain by making available to
developers the necessary tools to access
technology, adopt it and use it.
BLOCKCHAIN DEMOCRATIZATION
Alastria provides Spanish society with a
basic blockchain infrastructure, the
Alastria Network, and a digital identity
standard, the ID Alastria, which allows
transactions on the Network to have
legal validity.
ALASTRIA NETWORK
Alastria is a pioneering project that
encourages innovation anticipating the
possible interest of Spanish society for

A Shared National Infrastructure for public & private sectors
Members collaborate on the infrastructure
Members compete on the applications
Physical world (objects) is also connected to the infrastructure
26
National Infrastructure Use Case Requires Special Efforts…
Decentralized Centralized
Public networks (Bitcoin, Ethereum)
Public Permissioned network Private consortiums
Enterprise systems
Fully decentralized: everybody votes
Very decentralized (set of validators vote, with a “good enough” approach)
Vote only few Vote only one
3 - 10 transactions/sec High performance and scalability
(>1.000 tx/sec) High performance (100K tx/s)
PoW algorithm, requiring incentives to miners
More efficient algorithm (Istanbul BFT)
More efficient algorithms, without mining
High transaction costs, high volatility
Predictable, low transactional cost (no cryptocurrency embedded)
Low transaction costs, predictable
Alastria works on consensus, governance and identity to comply with the strong
requirements on legal compliancy, scalability, performance and trust
27
Interoperability
Scalability
Sustainable operating
model
Privacy of Data and
Transactional Activity
Low transaction costs Governance Model
As much decentralized as
possible, remaining practical.
Using IBFT, with some
extensions to increase
decentralization and trust on
the network.
Low and predictable costs
correlated to infrastructure
costs, not to demand of some
cryptocurrency.
Proper economic motivation
model for validators, based on
cost recovery and with the
objective of low transaction
costs.
Facilitate implement privacy of
data and transactional activity
to applications.
But with traceability and
auditability.
Interoperability at different
levels: among technologies
(Quorum, Fabric, …), with
private consortiums, at
ontology level (eg. Identity).
