Sheriff Al Byam says goodbye after 16 years

After 16 years, Al Byam will end his tenureas Calhoun County sheriff on Dec. 31. “It’sbeen an honor and privilege to have the trustof the citizens and to be the elected sheriff,”Byam said. Byam, 68, of Fredonia Twp.announced in March that he would not beseeking re-election for a fifth term. “I’m at theage and time in my life where I want to havemore personal time with my wife and family,”Byam said. “I have hobbies I would like topursue and some volunteer work as well.”See story on page 28

Environmentally speaking... Lookingback on a good year for Marshall

Environmentally speaking, 2012 was agood year for Marshall and thanks to thecombined efforts of many Marshall citizens,2013 will usher in a greener community withcleaner rivers and parks, well managednature areas, preserved natural resources,many new trees and more people dedicatedto greening up their lives and theircommunity. 2012 saw several projects thatwere initiated and facilitated by grass rootsgroups and funded mainly by local donations.
