Description

APCollegeBoard’s AP Program allows students to take college-level courses to earn college level credit while still in high school. The award of credit depends on the score the student earns on the AP exam in May.

DCDual Credit allows students to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously at their high school. Awarding of college credit comes from a local community college (Northwest Vista College).

RegulationsAP• Students can take as

many AP courses as they wish.

• Students will be required to pay a portion of the exam cost (~$15-$20 per AP exam)

• Do not need to take the class to take the test in May. Pay full price of $91.

DC• Juniors and Seniors

can take 2 Dual Credit courses each year. Sophomores only 1.

• Students pay one-time fee of $15 for the TSI assessment

The Benefits

English III AP/DC (Language)

APThe student takes the English Language AP exam in May.

Students need to check with their target college or university to see if the college will accept the AP score and what credit hours they will award. Colleges and universities grant the credit hours, not the AP program.

DCThe student attends class at the high school and completes assignments and exams. The student must earn a grade of 75 (2.0) or higher to receive college credit.

Student earns credit for ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302 (6 college credit hours) from NVC.

The BenefitsYour GPA

AP or pre-AP only• 8 points per semester are added to the student’s

Grade Point Average (GPA ) for each AP course taken.

• 5 points are added to each Pre-AP course and also effects the GPA.

DC only• 5 point are added to each semester . This is

figured into the student’s GPA.

The 1 – 2 Punch

AP and DC combined8 points are added to each semester and affects the student’s GPA. Plus, the student is awarded college credit hours from NVC for completing the class and with a 75 or higher.Student also does not have to take a standardized (or AP) test to receive college credit hours.
