Goal……• The main goal of this project is to provide better

social security measures to rural vulnerable elders

through health care, social protection, psycho-social

care, livelihood support and other age-appropriate

services in order to achieve active, healthy and

dignified life. The project implemented in

Chavara,Thekkumbhagam ,Panmana ,Thevalakkara

and Neendakara panchayath in kollam District and

Edakkattuvayal , mulanthuruthy,

chotanikkara,amballoor,udayamperur,Manid

panchayat of ernakulam district.

Key issues for older people

•Many enter old age in poor health – physical, labour, poor diet/environment or multiple pregnancies

• Older people do not fit a conventional health model - treatment, cure and return to full physical vitality

Findings• Sample size

Neendakara-12+15=27

Chavara-18+10=28

• About 85% of the Elders would like to take new initiatives in Neendakara

and in Chavara 50% are farmers

• In Neendakara 90% of the elders are healthy and they have their own ME

where as in Chavara 50 % of the elders are jobeless

• 100% of elders demand a Medical Camp

• Social Relationship status is satisfactory and 98% of the elders would like go

for an Exposure Visit.In this 100% think that religion,belief or Philosophy is

important to their quality of life

• About 80% of the elders think the cost of things compared to their income restricts their life

• 100% of the elders are not fully aware of the funds which is available to start ME/JLG

• In Neendakara the entire group found it difficult to get good Services and facilities from local shops

• In Neendakara and In Chavara 100% of the elders are interested to do paid and unpaid work or activities
