TERMS OF REFERENCE
Each of the 4 committees is
guided by TESL Ontario's
Terms of Reference document.
The Research Committee is made up
of several members who contribute
their academic & professional
expertise to a number of initiatives.
RESEARCH COMMITTEE MEMBERS
To develop, support & promote
research-related activities for the
association & its members
To establish & maintain a protocol for
ethics review of research-related
activities
THE MANDATE
Members of the Research Committee are
typically : actively engaged in research
familiar with current research in TESL issues
versed in one or several research methodologies relevant
to language teaching & learning
knowledgeable about the teaching context of adult ESL
instructors in Ontario
RESEARCH COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Works with the Conference Committee to realize the
potential of connecting research & practice
Peer reviews conference submissions
Liaises with conference organizers in the arrangement &
support of poster sessions and research paper presentations
Provides support to the TESL Ontario symposium held at the
conference
Updates the repository of research links provided on the
website
THE RESEARCH COMMITTEE…
The standard term for members of the Research
Committee is 3 years from AGM to AGM.
Members may be re-appointed for another 3-
year term.
RESEARCH COMMITTEE TERM
Typically, 3 meetings are arranged each year.
Meetings take place in person or via conference
call.
Other contact and committee work carried out by
email or conference calls as determined by the
Chair.
RESEARCH COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Coordinates Committee activities & liaises with the Board via the Executive Director
Appoints the Chair on advice from the Research Committee
Engage in research-related activities & opportunities to enhance professional development in the field
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Establishment of an ethics review
protocol (in 2010) To support ongoing research that contributes to the field of
language teaching & learning
Review applications from researchers interested in engaging members as research participants
Examples of TESL Ontario approved research:1. Pronunciation in LINC/ESL classrooms2. Writing in LINC classrooms3. Novice teacher TESL preparation
