WHAT IS AN ACADEMIC MINOR?

Minors are a group of courses focused on a specific subject or subjects organized by discipline.

Another way to put this is that the student takes courses based upon their interests and strengths—some that are required (as electives) and some that are selected out of the student’s own desire to learn more about a particular subject.

WHAT ARE THE ACADEMIC MINORS?Minors are divided by academic disciplines that make up a major curriculum or program (BSN, BSHS, etc.).

At Methodist College, there are six minors:

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

To receive a minor, a student must complete 15 (and typically no more than 18) hours of coursework from within the disciplines outlined by the minor (a minimum of 3 lower division credit hours and 9-12 upper division credit hours).

A student can transfer in six hours of coursework for the minor from another institution.

CERTIFICATES AT METHODIST COLLEGE

WHAT IS A CERTIFICATE?

A certificate is a specific course of study that is fewer hours than a major or a minor. Some certificates are “embedded” while others are independent.

Think of them as “mini-degrees.”

Certificates are designed to give unique skills in order to qualify the student for a specific profession or workplace environment.

WHAT IS A TRAVEL COURSE?Travel courses at Methodist College are designed for students to get out of the classroom and get real world experience and immerse themselves in different cultures to get the best learning experience. Earn credit hours in a quick, fun way.

Typically, travel courses are 1-2 weeks long over the Summer or Winterim Term

Travel courses cost: tuition of the course, plus a travel fee (travel fee includes overnight & travel accommodations). Students may be responsible for food & spending money on the trip.

Sign up for travel courses is on a first come, first served basis (student must have prerequisites completed).

Students will be notified of new travel courses through E-MAIL! *Always be on the lookout for emails regarding travel courses and stay in communication with your advisor!
