Acacia craspedocarpa

Leatherleaf Acacia

This evergreen, thornless shrub or

small tree from Australia has round,

thick, leathery gray-green leaf-like

phyllodes. This erect, compact shrub

grows slowly to 10 to15 feet tall and

wide, and is reminiscent of a large

boxwood. It may be grown as a large

shrub or trained into an attractive

small patio tree. The bright yellow

catkin-like flowers appear spring

through summer, followed by large

flattened seedpods. It performs best

in full sun and reflected heat, and

needs good drainage. It is cold hardy

to 20 º F.
