The Abraham Path is a long-distance walking trail across the Middle East.
The path retraces the cultural memory of the journey of Abraham and his
family and celebrates its story of hospitality and kindness to strangers.
The Abraham Path Initiative is an international organization cultivating the
development of the path with local and international partner organizations.
The mission of the initiative is to support local partners to develop the path as:
a catalyst for socio-economic development and sustainable tourism
a place of meeting and connection between people in the Middle East
and people around the world
a creative space for stories that highlight the unique culture, heritage
and hospitality of the region
The initiative is a non-profit, non-religious and non-political organization.

“It was deeply emotional, transformative and humanizing in a way that no amount
of reading about people can be. The simple act of walking -- the most ancient
means of travel -- inspires vulnerability and openness. And sitting next to a
stranger, breaking bread and conversing does wonders to remove the divisions of
‘us’ and ‘them.’ Every moment on the Abraham Path brimmed with discovery and
deepened understanding.”
– Dick Simon, path traveler

In response to the growing misperceptions about the Middle East, a circle
of local and global leaders formed the Abraham Path Initiative in 2007.
Since the initial founding, the initiative has worked with host communities,
local partner organizations, and a widening circle of global supporters to
uncover the path across the region. From students to international leaders,
and from secular hikers to pilgrims on foot, the path brings together people
from around the world and the Middle East. While providing opportunities
for otherwise marginalized rural communities, the path celebrates the cul-
tural memory of Abraham and threads together many of the world’s fabled
historic sites, revered holy places, and spectacular landscapes.

“When I walk as a guide on the path through the villages around my
home, I forget that I am walking with visitors from another country. And
it is not just the visitors that learn from me, I learn from them.
The path has changed the
way I look at everything.”
