*********************************** Dear Valued Voorhees Tigers:
The College’s Annual Honors Convocation Ceremony and Athletic Awards Banquet was
scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2020. In lieu of holding the annual event in the Dawson
Arena, this issue of Update on Academics in Light of the COVID-19 Virus provides a platform
for the virtual celebration of both Honors Scholars and Student Athletes. The Honors
Convocation and Athletic Awards Banquet is the opportunity for the College to pause and
celebrate the rigorous commitment and dedicated hours of study, critical thinking, and
scholarship that our students engage in, as well as, the dedicated hours of athleticism,
competition, and valor demonstrated by our student athletes. This event is the College’s
concerted effort to celebrate our best and brightest students and most acclaimed student athletes
at the same venue. Awards will be mailed to all honorees. We are proud of you and salute you
all. Voorhees is a better place because of you.
Congratulations and God’s peace.
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
A Salute to Academic Excellence and Athletic Pride:
WE ARE VOORHEES COLLEGE!!!
Dr. W. Franklin Evans
President and CEO
In light of the COVID-19 Virus, it is an honor and special privilege to salute the
honors awardees and student athletes via this virtual platform of the Annual
Honors Convocation Ceremony and Athletic Awards Banquet. It warms my heart
to pause to honor the varied academic achievements of Honors Awardees and the
outstanding accomplishments of die-hard, ferocious Student Athletes. Let me
express the pride and joy that we have for all of our dedicated students who
seriously devote their time to rigorous study in the classroom and in the library and
to those who sacrifice and honor their commitment to playing hard on the courts
and on the fields. Either way, through academics and athletics, our students serve
as premiere ambassadors for Voorhees College. Academic Excellence and Athletic
Pride is the true ethic of Voorhees College. As such, this is a celebration of
excellence and pride.

THE TRIBUTE TO VOORHEES COLLEGE ATHLETICS
Congratulations from the Athletic Director!!!
Mrs. Charlene Myers Johnson
Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of Athletics
On the behalf of President W. Franklin Evans, the Executive Cabinet, faculty, staff
and students, I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to each of the
Voorhees College athletic teams, players, coaches, cheerleaders, athletic trainers
and support staff. In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, we completely understand
how disheartening it has been for many teams to forego the season. However, as
the vigilant Voorhees Tigers you are, you remained steadfast, positive,
enthusiastic, and are currently preparing for the next level of challenges in life:
physically, mentally, spiritually, and academically. Whether you were able to
compete or not for the 2019-2020 season, please know we are so proud of you and
your efforts to represent Voorhees College, your families, and yourselves with
absolute honor and distinction. Your selfless attitudes, individual and collective
encouragement, and willingness to strive forward in the midst of adversity does not
go unnoticed. Certainly, your tenacity, persistence, and commitment to excellence
is a testament to the enduring legacy and True Blue spirit of Tiger Pride at
Voorhees College.
