Eternal God, from the glory of heaven to the poverty of a stable, your radiant light shines forth in a tiny baby wrapped in rags; such humble love astounds us. In Jesus you have become one with us, that we might become one with you. Open our hearts to joyfully receive his love that he may be born in us, and we in him. Amen.

sharing thE light Silent Night stillE naCht
Each will share the light with a neighbor until all candles are lit. Tip the unlit candle, holding the lit candle upright at all times.
During the singing of the last stanza of Silent Night, we will all raise our candles as the worship leaders raise theirs.
Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is brightround yon virgin mother and child.Holy infant so tender and mild, sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night, shepherds quake at the sight;glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.
Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love’s pure light;radiant beams from thy holy facewith the dawn of redeeming grace,Jesus, Lord, at thy birth, Jesus, Lord at thy birth.
Silent night, holy night, wondrous star lend thy light;with the angels let us singAlleluia to our King;Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.

The earth has grown old with its burden of care,But at Christmas it always is young, The heart of the jewel burns lustrous and fair,And its soul full of music breaks the air, When the song of angels is sung. ~ Phillips Brooks (1835-93)

Christmas Offering for HaitiUMCOR is a ministry of The United Methodist Church. UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States. They provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own. While UMCOR cooperates with other aid organizations to extend their reach, the most important partners are the people they serve. They believe that successful solutions to emergency or chronic conditions begin with the affected population. UMCOR provides these survivors not only temporary relief but long-term education, training, and support. UMCOR spends 100 percent of designated donations on the projects that donors specify. When UMCOR donors give their time, money, and supplies, they join UMCOR as the hands and feet of Christ. Your designated Christmas Offering for 2016 will go to UMCOR for Haiti Relief. Haiti is still recovering from a devastating earthquake and from Hurricane Matthew. Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. What will you give to honor him?
Hennepin Avenue UMC has a Christmas gift for you! Please take an olive wood Christmas tree ornament home with you (one per household, thank you). Olive wood carving is an ancient Holy Land tradition. These ornaments are crafted by Palestinian Chris-tian artisans in partnership with Bethlehem Bible College. church.org
