Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,For the last year or more you may have seen on the right
hand side of Makeke Road coming up towards the church aderelict mini-pickup truck that had been set up on blocks in thevacant lot on the corner under a huge mango tree. This pickupwas a Dodge Ram 50 about twenty-five years old. Piece-by-piecethe body parts were being removed by visitors and passers-by. Iwill be honest, since we drive the same style truck, I perusedaround the chassis but found nothing that I wanted to salvage. Ihad come too late to pick a part. All the best parts were gone.
Strangely enough, one day at the auto parts store in Lihuethe fellow in front of me in line was trying to purchase a gas tankfor his Ram 50. The cost was prohibitive, probably worth morethan the truck itself, so I mentioned to him that the gas tank of thispickup in Waimea was still up for grabs. He thanked me. I soonnoticed that indeed the gas tank that had been there before wasnow missing. I hope he enjoyed his free gas tank.
One day about two weeks ago, the rump frame of thederelict truck disappeared completely. I do not know whathappened to it. I understand that the Surfrider Organization onKauai has been out trying to pick up all of the salvage vehicles onthe island to recycle the metal and get rid of the eyesore. Was itthem? I do not know.
At about that same time, a pastor from the east side ofKauai called me up to ask how to get rid of a truck that somebodyhad just left on church property. "Oh, just leave it out long enoughand the issue of the truck will take care of itself. Orrrrr, put it onCraig's List online and sell the parts to make some money for thechurch!" I responded in earnest.
We have a special way of looking at things here on Kauai.Only on Kauai have I heard folks asking: "What happened to thegold, frankincense, and myrrh that Jesus got from the three wisemen? Did he keep it or give it away?" "What did Jesus do withthe donkey that he borrowed for his triumphal entry intoJerusalem? Did somebody else ride it back home again?" "Whathappened to the extra bread and wine at the Last Supper? Wasit given to the needy?" On this island we always try to get themost use out of everything! To do this, we share and share alike.

Congregational MeetingThe annual congregational meeting
