Major considerations for a national team coach
- Making good use of limited preparation time
- Where to place tactical emphasis - Player availability - Which practise to use in order to work on
the desired subject - How much theory and when - Maintaining a balance and sense of
perspective - Avoidance of over ambition - Not paying enough attention to squad
players and bruised egos - Avoidance of lateral damage to group (press, sponsors, family and friends)

Summary of what I consider the most important factors in any coaching job
- Ability to plan and prepare ” everyone has the will to win, but few have
the will to prepare” - Put yourself in players shoes - We are the circus masters, not the
performers - Ability to enthuse and to inspire - Winning people’s trust and respect - Ability to identify the key factors in a
team’s performance and then find ways to work at them
- Creation of a good learning environment - Remaining a student of the game

Easy to talk about what one should do, more difficult in reality. I have tried to highlight the areas I deem to be important, but have only scratched the surface of this vast and interesting topic.
Time for questions and perhaps more detailed examination of what I have been talking about
Quotation:
” I don’t believe in team motivation. I believe in getting a team prepared, so it will have the necessary confidence to step on to the field and to play a good game. If you can get players ready, prepared for all situations they will have to face, then they will be motivated”
