A Day of FREE
Dentistry!
Starting Good Dental Hygiene at a Young Age Your baby’s first year is full of wonderful surprises, their first word, their first
step and of course their first tooth.
But even before they have that first tooth pop through, there are steps that should
be taken to help prevent tooth decay and start a life of proper oral care.
Many pediatric dentists and pediatricians strongly suggest to parents that proper
dental care starts before the first tooth and encourage parents to regularly clean
their baby’s gums with a damp cloth after each feeding.
Also, to further prevent problems, these same pediatric experts encourage parents
not to put their child to bed with a bottle full of sugary drinks like juice or
chocolate milk. It may seem like a good idea to help your child asleep, but you
are putting their dental health at risk. Milk or sugary drinks will leave behind
damaging effects in your child’s mouth overnight. If your child must have a
bottle to fall asleep, try using water instead.
When that magical time comes that the first tooth pops in – usually when the
baby hits four months old – it’s time to begin a brushing routine and set up
baby’s first dentist appointment.
The brushing routine should include brushing your baby’s tooth/teeth twice a day
for at least two minutes.
When it comes to what products you should use for your baby’s dental care,
consider that children will typically use different products than adults on many
fronts, so using an adult toothbrush isn’t recommended.
Instead, use a soft-bristled brush and a toothpaste that is safe to swallow until
your child reaches two or three years old. Your dentist or dental technician can
go over the options for the best toothbrush and toothpaste to use with your child.
Remember that tooth decay is actually the single biggest childhood disease. By
starting these routines early, you will help your child establish a lifelong habit of
maintaining good oral hygiene and help them avoid feeling anxious or fearful of
visiting the dentist by helping them prevent troublesome problems that make
seeing the dentist a miserable experience for everyone involved.
Faces with Braces!! Congratulations to Maritza R, Daniel C, and Ashay S
for starting your braces this month!!!

Financially
Speaking…
From the desk of Dr. Jig Greetings from Reno, NV!! I should rephrase that to greetings
from the skies above Reno. I am sitting here on the plane
returning from Reno back to Chicago. Just spent a wonderful
weekend at my cousin’s Pratik’s wedding. Congratulations to
Pratik and Ekta in celebrating their nuptials with one another.
August found my family traveling through the southwest desert. It
was a bit of a crazy vacation in terms of how many places we saw
in eight days. If you get the chance, definitely put aside a week or
so and go explore the Utah desert. We flew into Vegas, Baby! But
no time to spend there. Straight we headed to Hoover Dam. Over
the next week we saw the Grand Canyon (and yes it is Grand),
Lake Powell, drove through Monument Valley, Arches National
Park, Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park, and finished with Las
Vegas. Our family voted that Arches National Park was the
highlight of the trip. Needless to say, we drove everyday about
three to four hours, but well worth it. It still amazes me that just
alone in the US of A we have so many great opportunities to travel.
My daughter is 12 now and my Dad always reminds me of how
important it is to show her this great country.
Though it is not September 11th
yet, I would like to take this time
to appreciate both the people that were victimized on that day
along with just a general thank you to this great country. We live
in a country that is just filled with opportunity. If you don’t think
so, just travel overseas for a week or two and you’ll know what I
am talking about.
October 2nd
will be our first Annual DentistryFromTheHeart.org
event. It is simply a day of giving back. I am both excited and
nervous because I don’t know what to expect. Simply put, people
who can’t afford going to the dentist can come in and get one
service – a cleaning, extraction, or filling. So far, besides our team,
Dr. Alexandra Bialy, Dr. Brainard Llanes, and Dr. Johnathan
Wong will be volunteering their time in this great cause. All three
colleagues are great doctors and great friends too. Any questions
regarding the event can be directed either to our office or feel free
to visit our website or www.DentistryFromTheHeart.org for
further information.
Yours in Health, Dr. Jig.
