PSA Tuckshop
Well done Rio class for
raising £92.24
at their tuck shop last
week.
As you will hopefully know, each school in the Olympic GetSet Network has two Olympic Ambassa-
dors. The ambassadors for Millfields are Year 5 pupils, Alecia Mansell and Jack Robinson. The am-
bassadors have been taking part in a 5 day training programme and will be presen7ng their work
to the other children in the school over the next few weeks. They are taking their role very serious-
ly and have worked very hard, so they will be sharing their work and more about their role in the
Mag over the next few weeks.
Thank you to all the parents who came to Sharing Assemblies this week and to all the parents who
took part in the Spanish workshop that was led by Belen our Spanish teacher –I hope you found it
useful. Please let us know what else you would like to find out about the curriculum at Millfields.
Parent workshops take place on Friday mornings at 9.30am. Next week, the school Catering Man-
ager will be talking about healthy school food and healthy packed lunches and offering food sam-
ples, and the following week, Roz will be talking about music provision at Millfields.
Year 5 children con7nue to work hard on their produc7on of Shadowball. The children in Years1 -6
will have the opportunity to see the performance during the a@ernoon on Thursday 15th
March.
There are s7ll 7ckets available for the evening performance directly from the Hackney Empire.
Again this week we have had several visi7ng educa7on professionals in school. Jon Abbey from the
Learning trust and headteacher colleagues paid an impromptu visit on Wednesday. They walked
around the whole school and were very impressed with the school ethos, the learning behaviours
of staff and children and the quality of the interac7ons they observed, as well as the quality of
marking that is helping pupils move forward in their learning.
On Tuesday, members of the A@er-school Judo Club visited the Olympic Park. The children were
congratulated on their behaviour and the quality of the ques7ons they asked by the staff at the
park, so well done to everyone, you were real ambassadors for the school.
I will also be keeping you updated over the next few weeks, with the school building and play-
ground developments. The PSA and some of the support staff have visited other school play-
grounds to look at good prac7ce and use of space, and there are also two parent architects work-
ing very closely with the school and the Learning Trust on building developments to accommodate
the transi7on to 3 form entry.
Just a reminder that Parents’ Evenings are on Tuesday 20th
and Wednesday 21st
March. Sign up
sheets will be ready at beginning of next week.
I hope you have a good weekend. Best Wishes, Jane

Estrella De La Semana
Stem Group A group of pupils in year 6 have been brought together to form our
first STEM club. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering
and Maths. The children will be doing a different inves7ga7on each
week and will share their work in class, in assemblies and on the
Millfields Mag, This week the group worked with a company that
makes computer games. They spent some 7me building their own
games and then advised the programmers on how to make their
games even beFer. Their games are on a website called Wordia:
www.wordia.com which is a free games-based learning plaGorm
with interac7ve video vocabulary. The children made their own ava-
tars and some of them won T shirts with these printed onto them.
Please have a look at the
Wordia website if you have a
moment. There is lots of
praise for our fantas7c
STEM pupils on the blog.
We will be working with
Wordia over the next 2
terms to develop vocabu-
lary based learning.

Music In Assembly Every week, each class from Recep7on to Year 6 has a Cele-
bra7on Assembly when we all congratulate children who
have earned 3 Happy Faces in class , celebrate the teacher's
choice for 'Star of the Week', and celebrate any other suc-
cesses that children have achieved the previous week. This
term, I would like to introduce the idea of children sharing
their musical talent in this assembly. Please talk to your
children and ask if they would be willing to play an instru-
ment at the beginning of one of the Celebra-
7on Assemblies. I hope to have a rota so that everyone has
an opportunity to play. If your child is interested, please ask
them to come and speak to me or write me an email/leFer
to let me know what they would like to play.
Many thanks, Jane
Healthy Packed Lunches
As a Healthy School we do a lot of
work with children to help them to
make healthy choices. Most children do this very well and tell us about their
good habits.
We have no7ced recently that some
packed lunches do not contain a bal-
anced meal for the children.
Please do not send chocolate, sugary
drinks or sweets to school.
Thank you for your support with this.
