Alcohol• Alcohol is a drug
found in certain beverages that depresses the brain and nervous system.
• Alcoholic Beverages: Beer, wine, liquor, malt liquor, and wine coolers.

Effects of Alcohol • This is a picture of
cirrhosis of the liver. Cirrhosis is a disease of the liver caused by chronic damage to the liver cells from drinking alcohol. This can cause liver failure which can kill you.
• The damaged liver is dark in color and hard.
• A healthy liver should be pink in color and soft.

Long term effects of Alcohol
• An over dose is when someone drinks too much alcohol causing their bodies organs to shut down eventually killing them.

Blood Alcohol Content (BAC)
• BAC is the amount of alcohol in a persons blood.• The higher the BAC the greater the effects of alcohol.• As you drink your BAC rises.

Tobacco• You must be 18 or older to purchase tobacco.• Nicotine is a stimulant drug found in tobacco
products that makes you addicted.• Nicotine stimulates the nervous system and is
highly addictive.• When someone who uses tobacco
stops using they experience
withdrawal.

Tobacco Growing• Tobacco is a plant that grows tall and has
leaves.
This is tobacco growing in a field. Tobacco is the largest non food crop in the world.
Step 1: Farmers plant seed fields and let the tobacco grow.

Step 2: Tobacco leaves are packed into metal racks,
hoisted into barns where they can dry.
Step 3: Here they are drying the leaves and steams
called curing.

Step 4: Cured leaves are placed in a 'uniform pack'
that contains the same grade of tobacco.
Step 5: Flue-cured tobacco is delivered to market
in sheets that weigh an average of 180 pounds.

Tobacco Products That Contain Nicotine
• Cigarette- dried and shredded tobacco wrapped in paper.
• Clove cigarette- mixture of ground cloves and tobacco.
• Cigar- dried and rolled tobacco leaves.
• Smokeless tobacco- tobacco that is chewed or snorted but not smoked. It is placed between the gums or cheek. Also called dip or snuff.

Chewing Tobacco• Also called Chew, Spit, or Dip tobacco.
• Spit tobacco is made from a mixture of tobacco, nicotine, sweeteners, abrasives, salts and chemicals.

• A carcinogen is a chemical that is known to cause cancer.

Marijuana• Marijuana is the dried leaves and tops of the
cannabis plant, which contains THC.• THC is the drug found in Marijuana that
produces psychoactive effects.
• It is an illegal drug!

• The leaves are dried and smoked. The plant flowers which produces buds which people smoke.
• It can be grown inside, outside, or in water.
