survey?• There are some important

vocabulary that goes along with surveys and how the samples of people are chosen.

• 1.) What is a survey?• A survey is a study of one or

more characteristics of a group.

• 2.) The entire group you want information about is called a population.

• 3.) Do you have to survey the entire population?

• NO, a sample can be picked, which is part of a population.

• 4.) Can samples be picked fairly?• Yes, in a random sample every

member of the population has an equal chance of being selected.

• There are also other types of samples.

• 5.) Stratified random sample – the population is divided into distinct groups, then members are selected at random from each group.

• 6.) Systematic sample – a rule is used to select members of the population.
