Connector wire

At zinc electrode (anode) zinc release electron to form ion.

Zn (p) Zn2+(aq) + 2e-

the released electrons reassemble at zinc plat.

At copper electrode (cathode) the released electrons by zinc flows to copper’s

electrode by connector wire. H+ ions (from water) & Zn2+ moves to copper’s

electrode. H+ ions discharge because of its position is lower in

electrochemical series. 2H+(aq) + 2e- H2(g)

In connector wire electron flows from negative terminal positive

terminal continuously electrical current. electrons flows voltmeter indicator removes.

Overall equation

Zn(s) + 2H+ (aq) Zn 2+(aq) + H2(g)
