Cork face Tribe in finalU21s back in decider CORK will face Galway in the All-Ireland

U21 final on Saturday week in the GaelicGrounds, Limerick at 7pm, after a thrill-ing victory over Cavan.

The Rebels had to with-stand a fightback fromthe Ulster champions inthe closing stages, andafter leading by sixpoints, eventually pre-vailed 0-15 to 1-11 cour-tesy of a Dan Mac Eoinfree.

In the decider JohnCleary’s side take on Gal-way who shocked favour-ites Kildare 2-10 to 2-5 inthe other semi-final.

The Tribe perviouslybeat the Cork U21s in the2011 semi, going on to liftthe All-Ireland.

Cork selector BrianHerlihy believes therewill be little between thesides.

“In a final anythingcan happen. Galway playa nice brand of footballand I think the cup isthere for the taking foreither team.

“Our guys had shown abit of grit all year andthey need to do thatagain against Galway.Galway were 3/1 againstKildare. Ridiculousodds.”

Herlihy, Cleary, Mi-chael Linehan and MickO’Loughlin have been in-volved at U21 level since2004, while Donal Mc-Carthy joined as selectorin ’08 after former man-ager Tony Leahy’s depar-

ture.In that 10 year period

Cork have captured eightMunster titles and twoAll-Irelands, while thiswill their fourth final.

Dohenys clubman Her-lihy feels this group ofCork players have theright attitude to becrowned champions.

“They’ve shown greatresilience, and one thingis that different fellasperform better on anygiven day. Alan Cadoganwas man of the matchagainst Tipperary andnow Mark Sugrue.”

Cork’s win over Cavanmeans a number ofchanges to the firstround of the club sectionof the SFC, with the ma-jority of matches post-poned until May 11-12.● See P48-53 for more.
