    FUTURE’SBRIGHTFORFABLE100 FABLES

WHO: Lyndsey Liora (vocals/synth/keyboard), Harris Hiscoe (bass), ErinReidy (guitar), Graham “Bruno”Brown (drums)WHERE:GlasgowFOR FANS OF: Blondie, Haim,ChvrchesJIM SAYS: I was meant to check out100 Fables last year, on the strengthof their stunning Prince-samplingtaster track Fairytales And Lovers.

Unfortunately, the venue was alllocked up. A poster pinned to thedoor revealed that I’d turned up 24hours late.

So I finally caught them last monthat the Party At The Palace at Linlith-gow Palace. Rolling out their 21st-Century take on New Wave, 100Fables were impressive, and theirstriking rework of Talking Heads’ Psy-

cho Killer hit the right spot. There’s nodenying the influence from that era.

Singer Lyndsey said: “I recently vis-ited what’s left of CBGB’s in New York.I fell in love and have left a little pieceof my heart there.”

The legendary club, which closedin 2006, was the one of the breedinggrounds for punk.

Lyndsey added: “I hope I can createa place like that one day for artists oldand new to play, grow and cherish. For now it’s releasing our sound intothe world, igniting some minds andcreating a buzz.” Debut single FutureGirl is a fresh blast of edgy pop, itreminds me of Shampoo and even

Girls Aloud. Lyndsey said: “Future Girlis our baby. She’s our first proper sin-gle and with that she has my soul. Sheis certainly a force to be reckonedwith. I am not Future Girl. But she isinside of me.

“We are all one of the many faces ofFuture Girl.

“Future Girl is for the better of thepeople and she is for every genera-tion and every being who wants hap-piness and quality of life for themasses. And that’s why we chose herto be the first single.”

You get can away with stuff like thatwhen the music’s this good! FutureGirl is out today. They play a launchgig next Thursday at the Record Fac-tory on Glasgow’s Byres Road.MORE: 100fables.comlJim presents Drivetime on XFM Scotland, Mon-day to Friday 4-7pm. xfm.co.uk jimgellatly.com

TEENAGE sensation RatBoy’s career onlykicked off because hegot the push from hisburger-flipping gig in aWetherspoons pub.

But the Chelmsford ladwon’t reveal why theybinned him.

Rat — real name JordanCandy — admitted: “I want peo-ple to forget about that. It wascontroversial and not somethingI can discuss.”

Faced with nothing else andalso reportedly snubbed for ajob at McDonald’s, he threwhimself into music.

But the 19-year-old is part ofa new breed who doesn’t mea-sure progress in chart positionsor packed-out gigs.

He added: “I’d like to get a

million views for one of myvideos online and I want over100,000 fans on Twitter.

“I have always played musicbut I only started writing songslast February. I did my mixtape and it’s gone from there.

“I wasn’t looking for any out-come. I just see it as, some

days I make a song but otherdays, all I write is s***.”

His style is in-your-facescuzzy pop — perfectly shownby the Burberry Metro car fea-tured in the video for his hitSign On.

Jordan said: “My dad paintedit for me. It took him two days— he did it in layers.

“It’s outside my house now, asI’m tying to sell it. It’s a prettyugly looking car to be fair.”
