Changes In The State of Matter
4.2 Inquiry Experiment
Azneezal Ar-Rashid
Aim
• To study changes in states of matter
Material
• Ice cubes
Apparatus
• 50 ml beaker
• Tripod stand
• Thermometer
• Wire gauze
• Bunsen burner
Procedure
• Put the ice cubes into a beaker• Record the temperature of the ice cubes• Then, heat the ice cubes while stirrikng with the
thermometer• Record the temperature every 1 minute in the table until
the water boils• Record your observation of the changes in the state of
matter in the same table• Based on the results if the activity, draw a graph showing
temperature (axis-y) against time (axis-x)

Conclusion
• When ice cubes are heated, heat energy is absorbed by the water particles in their solid state before they change to liquid.
• When heating continues, heat energy is absorbed by the water particles in their liquid state before thy change to steam (which is gaseous state)
