• Hong Kong Examinations Authority Ordinance was enacted on 5 May 1977 and we started operation on
1 August 1977. • In 2002, the Ordinance was revised as Hong Kong
Examinations and Assessment Authority Ordinance.

Hong Kong Examinations Authority (HKEA) was renamed as Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) since 19 July 2012. In the same year, we celebrated the HKEAA 25th Anniversary.

‘Ancient’ Hong Kong Examinations Authority Stamp, mainly used on important documents such as Statement of Results for candidates.
Numerous logo designs were shortlisted in 1977.

The first logo of the HKEA was designed by a student from the First Institute of Art and Design in 1994. The finalised logo design comprises of the letter ‘E’ and ‘A’, adapted from the original design.

The very first annual report of the HKEAA was published in 2000 while The Work of the HKEA and Public Examinations in Hong Kong had been published from 1970s to 1990s, introducing our examinations and assessment services.

Each certificate is printed with an unique serial number and signature of the Secretary General. The certificate for each candidate will only be issued once.

The Chinese name of the candidates on the certificates were all hand-written in the past but has been changed to copy printing since 1989.

Before 1987, the number of subjects entered by candidates in HKCEE was capped at nine, therefore those who attained 9As were the top students at that time.

School candidates have to attach a recent photo together with the school stamp and signature of school principal on their admission forms for identity verification during examinations.

Apart from Regulations and Assessment Frameworks, there are specific Curriculum and Assessment Guide for 24 Category A subjects in the HKDSE.

‘Practical Skills for Work and Study’ was introduced to the AS Use of English in 1989. The booklet was issued in 1995, based on experience of past examinations, providing guidelines for teachers on how to teach the subject.

Candidates needed the Four-Figure Tables to check the values of square roots and logarithm, etc. in examinations before the introduction of electronic calculators.
