Shri T.S. Nandakumar, an Top grade artist of the All India Radio, hails from the family of the renowned Nadaswaram exponents,Ambalapuzha Brothers of Kerala. He underwent training in percussion under Shri Kaithavana Madhavdas in the Gurukulam tradition.
T.S.Nandakumar has accompanied top grade artiste like, Shri Semmamgudi Srinivasa Iyer, M.D.Ramanathan, Dr.S.Ramanathan, Dr.Balamuralikrishna, T.N.Krishnan, Pt Bhimsen,Joshi, Dr.K.J.Yesudas, Dr.L.Subramaniam,N.Ramani ,T.V.Gopalakrishnan, T.K.Govinda Rao, Nedunuri Krishnamurthy,Kanyakumari and others
He has taken up as his life mission to perpetuate our ancient art form and has dedicated himself to teaching the same to hundreds of students worldwide. With more than 25 of Senior students , who are graded AIR artistes , TSN percussive arts centers , established in India, Europe and USA, teaches Mridangam, Ghatam, Kanjira, Morsing, konnakkol, to aspiring students across the globe.He has received many accolades and awards and to name a few,He was awarded the titles of GURU SHIKHAMANI Sruti SRUTHILAYA SUDHAKARA, and SWARA SADHANA RATNA, he was the recipient of LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD IN CHENNAI, for his contributions to the field of classical music. PADMA SRINIVASAN is a Sangeetha Vidwan from the Central College of Carnatic Music in Madras and also has a Diploma in Music from the Department of Music, University of Madras, India. She had performed as an All India Radio artist for several years and was a winner of the President of India medal for Carnatic Music.
She is an Honorary Patron member of CMANA, the Carnatic Music Association of North America, N.J. Also, she was the recipient of the felicitation of Carnatic musician andteacher at the Sangeet Rajani 2003, an annual program of the Indian Acadeny ofPerforming Arts, N.J. Since 1983, the year she came to the U.S., Padma Srinivasan has been teaching Carnatic vocal music in Edison, N.J. for both adults and children. She has given concerts in New York, New Jersey and Pittsburgh, and also participated in many of the musical events in the tristate area. She presented with her students a set of 12 kritis of the composer Koteeswara Iyer in rare mela ragas on Teachers’ Day organized by CMANA. She and her students did another presentation of Arunagirinathar’s Kandar Anubhuti as a ragamalika and thalamalika at the Hindu Temple in Flushing, NY. and the Balaji Temple in Bridgewater, NJ. Padma Srinivasan made another presentation of 11 kritis on Sringeri Saradamba composed by a little-known composer Andavan Pitchai, at the Sringeri Sarada Peetam, Stroudsburg, PA. Padma Srinivasan has been directing and conducting annually a whole day program called “Geethashrunkala” in which all her students have the opportunity to perform and to listen to their fellow students. Many of her students are invited to perform in various community programs. They participate in music compe-titions, and often win awards.
Padma Srinivasan passed away into eternity on 31st December 2013 leaving behind a dedicated bunch of adult students and a big music group in sorrow. To this day, the students of Late Padma Srinivasan have continued to meet and perform in groups at local area events including a group rendering at the 40th Anniversary of CMANA in Sep 2016. They have also instituted an award for the Winner of the First place across all Instrumental categories in the Annual Great Composers Day competitions held by CMANA every labor day.
