Faculty Initiates
Dr. John T. Drea
John T. Drea (DBA Southern Illinois University) is a Professor of Marketing and Interim Chair of the Department of Marketing and Finance at Western Illinois University. Dr. Drea also holds an MBA degree from the University of Notre Dame and a BA degree from Illinois College. Dr. Drea's teaching interests are primarily in consumer behavior and marketing research. He is the author of over 30 refereed publications in the areas of marketing and logistics. Dr. Drea is the winner of the first of the "Distinguished Teaching Competition" by the Society for Marketing Advances, and has also received awards for innovation teaching from the American Marketing Association, the Illinois State Board of Education, and the Society for Marketing Advances. A native of Kincaid Illinois, Dr. Drea served as a professor and administrator for 12 years prior to joining Western Illinois University. He is married to Brenda (Mohrman) Drea and has two children, Thomas and Kelsey.

Dr. Don T. Johnson
Don T. Johnson has served at WIU for 21 years, teaching finance with a specialty in the area of real estate. As a teacher, Don has consistently gotten strong evaluations from his students, has been successful at helping place students, and has been the long time advisor to the Rho Epsilon real estate club. His teaching interests include general real estate, secondary mortgage market operations, real estate investing, and real estate valuation. In the area of research, Don has published since 1993, either singularly or jointly, 34 refereed journal articles including 16 in the past five years. His works have been published in a variety of prestigious journals such as the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, Review of Financial Economics, Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance, College & Research Libraries, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. Don currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Managerial Finance, a well-known finance journal. In January 2008, Don was awarded the Cecil P. McDonough Endowed Professorship of Business, the first endowed chair in the College of Business and Technology. Finally, in the area of Service, Don has been very active including many years of service on personnel com-mittees at the departmental, college and university levels. He has also served as Program Chair and President of the Academy of Finance, an academic and professional group dedicated to the advancement of the understanding of financial issues. Currently, he serves as President of the MBAA-International, a large multidisciplinary academic business organization.

Dr. Gregory P. Montalvo, Jr.
Greg Montalvo is a Professor of Educational Psychology in the Educational and Interdisciplinary Studies Department at Western Illinois University. He received a bachelors of science in Vocational Education from Southern Illinois University in 1992. Shortly thereafter he began graduate studies at The University of Oklahoma where he re-ceived a M.Ed. in Educational Psychology and Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology and Technology. After graduate studies, Dr. Montalvo completed a post-doctorate in school renewal with Oklahoma Networks for Excellence where he directed collaborative school improvement efforts involving area public schools and faculty members at The University of Oklahoma. His primary research interest involves factors that influence student motivation and achievement. His latest work combines multiple lines of research on student/teacher relationships to identify characteristics of liked teachers and examines the impact of liking or disliking the teacher on student learning and motivation. In addition to his work in achievement motivation, Dr. Montalvo also has a strong interest in the use of technology to improve student learning. He has delivered local, regional, and national presentations on technology integration and online course development. Because of his work in this area, Dr. Montalvo received the College of Education and Human Services Innovative Use of Technology Award. Dr. Montalvo has also served as a consultant for several public school districts in Illinois and Iowa. His work with these districts has helped administrators, faculty, and staff understand how the social climate and district programs impact student social and academic behavior.
