Dear Parents, caregivers and students, Welcome back to school. I hope you all had a wonderful break, relaxing with your family. Mr Haberecht is on long service leave until 9th November 2020 and while he is away, I have the pleasure of stepping into the position of relieving Principal. I would like to welcome Mr Nathan Crowther back to our school. He is currently the relieving Assistant Principal for Stage 2. The students are so happy to have one of their favourite teachers back at Guildford Public School. Year 6 orientation day for all secondary schools is scheduled for 1st December. A reminder to the parents of Year 6 students, if you have not yet enrolled your child into Year 7 for 2021, can you please do so ASAP. It is now the parent’s responsibility to contact the high school to enrol your child if you did not return the form to your child’s classroom teacher at the end of Term 3. Miss Jones is communicating with our local High Schools about their transition to High School program. If you have any questions, feel free to contact her. Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. It is also very important that your child or children arrive to school on time. Arriving at school and class on time: Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine Give students time to greet their friends before class Reduces classroom disruption Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents
Mrs Salam Haider, our substantive Assistant Principal, who is currently working at head office as the Diagnostic Assessments Numeracy Advisor K-12, is working with our students trialling and testing the development of a new diagnostic assessments in numeracy, specifically number sense and place value. Her work at our school will go towards producing a program aimed to improve numeracy for all students across NSW. We are excited to be a part of this process. Miss Melodie Bryceland, Mrs Jamile Daher and I, have been visiting preschools to hold Transition to Kindy talks with the future parents and students. Research has shown that children who attend preschool are better equipped for kindergarten. Preschool education gives students a head start and prepares them for the challenges of primary school. The benefits of a pre-school education for children include: Fostering an early passion for learning Arousing curiosity Promoting language development and vocabulary The improvement of fine motor and sensory skills Enhancing creativity and problem solving skills Socialisation The ability to interact with others from diverse backgrounds Lowering the risk of developing learning difficulties Lessening the effects of disadvantage. If you have a child at pre-school and you are not sure if your child is ready for school, speak to the pre-school teachers and they will provide you with good advice. If you have a child at home, not ready for school, please consider enrolling them into a pre-school close to home, so as to best prepare them for when they have to start Kindergarten.

Deputy Principal Weekly News
Ms Willis
I am proud to say that I have been witnessed to
some amazing teaching and learning at our
school. Miss Jones has been using the new play‐
ground area to teach students about fractions.
Children were engaged in discussing and using
problem solving skills to answer questions re‐
lating to equivalent fractions.
Meanwhile in 3G, Vicki Mao and Janet Jiang,
used their imaginative and creative thinking
skills to plan, design and make a literacy game
so as to strengthen their knowledge of sounds
and information text.
Let’s read what the girls have to say:
“ We made The Rainy Spiders game because it
was for literacy groups. Also, the literacy
group activity was about the sound S. Another
reason we made this game was because our
class was looking at information texts and
procedures. Our game is an information game
because it gives us information and facts. We
think this game can be used for small kids
because they can learn while they have fun!”
Thank you, Vicki and Janet, I absolutely love
playing The Rainy Spiders Game.
Did you know that spiders have 8 eyes!
