Polymeric Reversed Phase Sorbent for Extraction of Acidic, Basic and Neutral Compounds
strata-X is a patent pending versatile sorbent that can be used to separate both polar and non-polar compounds. This revolutionary technology consists of hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and aromatic retention mechanisms that offer the following benefits:
• Strong π−π retention mechanism that provides high recoveries for aromatic compounds
• Deconditioning resistant sorbent bed that can run dry without losing selectivity
• Enhanced polar selectivity for polar metabolites
X-SPEct More from strata-X strata-X vs. Traditional SPE Sorbents.
Improved Recovery for Aromatics
strata-X is a water-wettable, surface modified styrene-divinylbenzene polymer which retains analytes by π−π interaction, giving high recoveries for aromatic compounds. Elution solvents that have strong π character such as acetonitrile can be used to disrupt the π−π interaction of the sorbent and analyte.

Put A Stop To Stopcocks
The deconditioning resistant sorbent bed eliminates the need to adjust stop-cocks on a vacuum manifold during manual tube processing, and eliminates the well–to-well variability that often results from 96-well plate automation.

Polymeric Cation Exchange Sorbent for Extraction of Basic Compounds
strata X-C is a patent pending sorbent that gives extremely high recoveries for bases using the strong interaction of ion exchange. The revolutionary selectivity of strata X-C offers significant advantages over silica-based cation exchange sorbents:
• Mixed-mode functionality includes π−π selectivity for aromatic bases and cation exchange selectivity for primary, secondary and tertiary amines
• Strong secondary interactions eliminate the use of
halogenated solvents when cleaning up drugs of abuse
• Deconditioning resistant sorbent that can run dry without losing ion exchange selectivity
• Ability to fractionate acidic and neutral components from bases
• 100% organic washes provide cleaner extracts from biological samples reducing ion suppression

Strata™ Screen-A & C
Extraction of Drugs of Abuse
Strata Screen-A and Screen-C silica-based sorbents combine hydrophobic retention of a C8 ligand plus a strong ion exchanger. The dual selectivity of these sorbents works well for extracting acidic and basic drugs of abuse from biological matrices such as serum and urine.
Strata Screen-C GF (Gravity Flow)
Strata Screen-C GF is a 200µm particle, mixed-mode sorbent that can be used to effectively clean up viscous samples and provide the following benefits:
• Superior flow in absence of a vacuum
• High extraction efficiency in comparison to traditional mixed- mode sorbents of smaller particle size
• Extraction of acidic, neutral and basic drugs

Pore Size: the average diameter of the porous opening on the surface of a solvent particle. For a compound to be extracted in a SPE method, the molecule must not be too large to fit into the pores. For large molecules, sorbents with extra large pores must be used.
Bed Volume: the sum of the interstitial volume plus the pore volume of the sorbent. The bed volume of the sorbent determines the solvent volumes required in a SPE method. In general, solvent volumes between 4 to 8 times the bed volume are typically necessary to ensure proper conditioning, washing and elution. Conditioning with less than 4 to 8 bed volumes increases the risk of incomplete solvation of the bed and low or irreproducible recoveries, while more than 4 bed volumes is typically unnecessary.
Conventional packed bed, silica-based SPE products typically have a bed volume of approximately 150µL per 100mg of sorbent. Polymeric sorbents require larger solvent volumes for proper conditioning, washing and eluting. It is recommended to use 200-250µL per 100mg of sorbent.
Reservoir = Sample Capacity (i.e. 1mL, 3mL, 6mL, 12mL, 20mL, 60mL)
The column volume refers to the dimensions of the SPE tube. It determines the largest volume solvent or sample that can be delivered per aliquot.
Since the majority of SPE is performed on relatively “dirty” samples that contain many potential contaminants, it is common practice to be conservative and choose a slightly larger sorbent mass.
Determining Proper Bed MassSilica-based sorbents Non-ionic sorbents retain a mass of solute (analyte plus retained contaminants) that is equivalent to approximately 5% of the sorbent mass. Therefore, a 100mg cartridge can retain approximately 5mg of total solute mass.
Polymeric sorbents The large surface area of polymers give a higher capacity that is approximately 10-15% of the sorbent mass.
Ion exchange sorbents Capacity is determined by the number of charged sites on the sorbent available to interact with the analyte.
Sorbent Bed Mass = Analyte Capacity(i.e. 30mg, 50mg, 60mg, 100mg, 150mg, 200mg, 500mg, 1g, 2g, 5g, 10g, 20g)
The sorbent bed mass determines the maximum amount of analyte that can be retained by the sorbent.
Reduce breakthrough by selecting the proper bed mass!

• Great starting point for all reversed phase applications
C18-ESelectivity: nonspecific non-polar retention mechanism with the surface end-capped to minimize secondary polar silanolinteractions.
• Extraction of hydrophobic molecules from aqueous and biological samples.
• Desalting a matrix, as ions are not retained by the sorbent.
• Separate large proteins from drugs. The drugs can be extracted from a sample, while macromolecules >15kD are too large to effectively interact with the sorbent.
C18-USelectivity: primarily non-polar retention mechanismcombined with secondary polar silanol interactions.
• Increased extraction efficiency and enhanced clean up of hydrophobic compounds that contain hydroxy or amine functional groups from water or biological fluids.
• Desalting a matrix.
• Separate large proteins from polar drugs or metabolites. The drugs can be extracted from a sample, while macromolecules >15kD are too large to effectively interact with the sorbent.
C18-T (wide pore)Selectivity: nonspecific non-polar retention mechanism withthe surface end-capped to minimize secondary polar silanolinteractions.
• Extracting large hydrophobic molecules (up to 75kD) from water or biological matrices.
• Desalting a matrix.
• Separate large proteins from drugs. The drugs can be extracted from a sample, while macromolecules >74kD are too large to effectively interact with the sorbent.
C8Selectivity: nonspecific non-polar retention mechanism with the surface end-capped to minimize secondary polar silanolinteractions.
• Extracting hydrophobic compounds from water or biological fluids that are retained too strongly on Strata C18-E or
strata-X.
PhenylSelectivity: unique non-polar retention mechanism via π-π andhydrophobic interactions.
• Extracting aromatic hydrophobic compounds.
CNSelectivity: unique selectivity toward non-polar and polarcompounds combined with secondary polar silanol interactions.
• Retaining non-polar, compounds that are retained too strongly on Strata C18-E or C8.
• A normal phase sorbent used to extract polar compounds from non-polar sorbents.
SDB-L (Styrene-divinylbenzene)Selectivity: combines non-polar retention mechanism via π-π and hydrophobic interactions completely free from secondary silanol interactions.
• Extraction of non-polar and polar molecules.
• Large volume environmental samples.
• Extracting large proteins (up to 90kD), which can effectively interact with the large pores of the sorbent, making it useful in applications such as desalting a sample.
