FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 31, 2019
My Dear Parishioners, Praised be Jesus Christ! This weekend, my siblings and I celebrate our mom’s 75th birthday. As a twin, my mom shares her birthday with her brother, my uncle, who is a priest. And both of them share a birth year with our Archbishop. 75 is a big year for priests and Bishops because it means RETIREMENT. While it does not spell the same
for my mom, it‘s a big year nonetheless. May God make it a good year for her.
Recently, in speaking of his 75th Birthday, Archbishop Chaput referred to himself as being old. Then he said this, “Time is precious. Time maers. It maers because we really have so lile of it in any life, and if we misuse it, we never get it back.” How true. And that truth is worth thinking about as we enter this mid-way point of Lent. Examining and asking “How our Lent is going, how/if we are using our me well…can give us reason/ encourage us to use it well
This 4th Sunday of Lent is somemes referred to as Laetare Sunday, because we are called to rejoice. Lent began with the call of repentance and if heeded, repentance always leads to rejoicing. Because repentance and true sorrow for sin, always leads us to Jesus. It leads us to rejoice in the Lord‘s Mercy, His power of Death, His ability and desire to absolve us of our sins. And isn‘t that the greatest reason to rejoice? It’s one thing to rejoice over a birthday or a sports win or an accomplishment at work. But the joy of having one’s sins forgiven well that’s quite different. The gi of having and hearing a priest pray the words of absoluon over you, “I absolve you of your sins”. Well, that is quite powerful and that is the joy that only Christ can give. We know He gives that joy for that’s what He’s all about, Saving us from sin. But to experience that mercy of God, well that’s for each of us to encounter, to welcome and to allow.
As we move deeper into Lent, I invite, challenge and ask each of you to allow the Mercy, Presence and Light of Jesus to move deeper into you. The events that we celebrate in the coming weeks are not mere remembrances. They are not events to be watched, but rather to be shared. God sharing His life, His pain, His suffering with us and for us. And we are invited to share our lives, especially our sinfulness with Him.
This Friday, we welcome a wonderful meditaon on the Love of God as the Franciscan Mystery Players, a young group from New Jersey, come to our Parish to share with us a Living Way of the Cross. Please join us this Friday at 7:30PM. Then on Saturday Morning, we will have a special gathering to talk about our new Columbarium at our cemetery. Landscaping work begins out there this week and we hope to open the Columbarium in May. Come and learn more about our cemetery, standards and norms of Chrisan Burial and make ready the Way of the Lord.
Peace,
Fr. Christopher Rogers

St. Patrick Church Gala
The Knights of Columbus would like to thank everyone who aended our St. Patrick’s Day Gala. The inial feedback we received from
those aending has been very posive. We’ve been told that the food was quite good, the entertainment was wonderful and the comradery was exceponal. Everyone seemed to have a good me.
We would really like to thank ALL those businesses, which pro-vided items for our silent aucon. As we noted in the Gala’s program, cket prices cover the cost for room rental and enter-tainment. The main source of profit from the Gala, the funds we use to support local charitable causes each year, come from the proceeds of the silent aucon. If you’re a business owner who donated a gi, please know that we are extremely appre-ciave and that your money will go to a great cause. If you were lucky enough to be the high bidder at the aucon and walked away with a special gi, especially if this gi was a “gi cerfi-cate”, when you use the cerficate, please remember to thank the business for supporng our Gala. The business owner didn’t have to support us, but did so because she/he believed we would put the money from auconing the gi towards a good cause; which we will.
Finally, each year we enjoy pung on this Gala for the Parish. If you aended this year, we hope you come back again next year. If you weren’t able or chose not to aend, ask those who did aend about it. We’re rather confident that they’ll tell you it is a “must aend” Parish event.
Thank you for your support.

REMEMBER WHEN?
Women in mourning wore black for a year after the loss of their loved one.
DID YOU KNOW? The pastor who selected the site for our current church, Fr. John O’Donel also purchased the land on which our parish cemetery is located in 1904. Before the establishment of this cemetery Catholics were buried at a churchyard at Coffee Run and at St. Patrick’s Mission Churchyard on Ashland Clinton School Road in Delaware. That is sll marked as St. Patrick’s Ceme-tery.
