Mrs. SpragginsThis will be my 6th year as a teacher. I taught two years of 7th grade Language Arts teacher for Cy-Fair ISD, two years of 6th grade Language Arts, and one year of 7th and 8th Enrichment. I am a native Texan and have lived in Houston for more than 40 years.

Teaching is my second career after spending 25 years working for various nonprofits helping to end homelessness, child abuse, domestic violence and human trafficking. I believe education is an element in combating these social issues and have confidence that combining my passion for language arts with my social work experience continues this lifelong work.

“Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life.” – Albert Einstein

I am married to an amazing man who is a director in the business school at the University of Houston. I have a 26-year-old son, former Marine, who lives in Pittsburgh, Pa. My Mother lives with us after retiring from the mission field in Africa.

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.- Benjamin Franklin

It is my opinion middle school students begin to use their foundational skills in the same way that they will be using them in high school and college. Therefore, I am excited about being a part of this critical time in their educational career.

Middle School is the period when many adults say they discovered the subjects that they are passionate about. It is my greatest hope that I can help them explore their interests, discover their strengths, and expand their skills.

8th Grade

The 8th graders will focus on computer skills that will prepare them to meet the academic expectations necessary for high school. We will be using a college and career readiness platform the district provides to track, set, and achieve goals throughout their high school career. Students will collaborate on a year-long future problem-solving project with Renzulli Learning.

A beginning of the year priority will be to explore the 8th grader's options for high school. They will learn to calculate their grade point average, write an application letter, and navigate the HISD Choice Application process.

The 7th graders will focus on digital citizenship and the computer skills necessary to produce quality work products.
