The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission is the agency responsible for licensing and regulating New York City's taxicab and for-hire vehicle industry. The Commission licenses and regulates over 80,000 vehicles and approximately 150,000 drivers, performs safety and emissions inspections, and initiates numerous hearings for violations of City law and Commission rules and regulations, making it the most active taxi and limousine regulatory agency in the United States.
UNIT DESCRIPTION (Max characters 1000 )
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the agency responsible for regulating New York City's taxicab and for-hire vehicle industry. Our agency licenses and regulates over 80,000 vehicles and approximately 150,000 drivers, making it the most active taxi and limousine regulatory agency in the United States. Aside from vehicles and drivers, we also regulate taxicab agents and for-hire vehicle bases, including popular app-based transportation companies like Uber and Lyft. The Prosecution Division investigates and prosecutes all summonses issued by the TLC which consist of administrative, field and consumer-initiated complaints. We prosecute a wide range of violations including reckless driving, unlicensed operation, illegal street pickups, harassment and leaving the scene of an accident.

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES (Max characters 1500 )
Our Division is currently seeking college and graduate students to intern for summer 2019. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: compiling weekly reports using our ESAP database, coordinating hearing calendars for
Prosecuting Attorneys, rescheduling first time complaints with the OATH Agency, recreating settlements in TAMIS. Interns will also respond to questions from the public either by phone, via email or in person and provide general
direction as appropriate. Interns will demonstrate excellent customer service skills and utilize translation services, in the performa.

QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIAL SKILLS/AREA OF STUDY (Max characters 1500 )
Interested applicants should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize, manage time, and engage in multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. This is a perfect opportunity for students interested in public service, prosecution, government advocacy, or public policy.
Candidates must be accepted to or enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program, or recently graduated in the winter or spring semester of the program year.
