Major Selection Workbook Before getting into the details of the different majors and their
requirements, take some time to reflect on your time in Edwards thus

Majors & Program Planning
Restricted Majors
Five of six majors offered are restricted (Accounting, Finance, Human
Resources, Marketing and Operations Management). Edwards limits the
number of students admitted to a restricted major. Admission into a
restricted major is based on your cumulative average in all courses
taken at the U of S that are used toward your B.Comm degree to the
end of Term 1 in the year you apply for your major. Term 2 grades in
2019/20 will not be used for students applying in January 2020.
Students applying to Management are required to have a minimum 60%
cumulative average at the time of application.
Seats available in restricted majors and 2018 cut-off averages:
Quota 2019 Cut-off
Accounting 140 74.14%
Finance 100 71.05%
Human Resources 60 60.00%
Marketing 60 67.36%
Operations Management 60 60.40%
There are a limited number of seats available in the five restricted
majors (listed above). Students applying to a major will be ranked by
cumulative average and the top students will be admitted to that major
until the quota is met. The cut-off averages from last year are listed
above. The expected target averages for the majors are 76% for
Accounting and 70% for Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, and
Operations Management. Meeting the target average does not
guarantee admission to that major.

Choosing a Major
The Major Specializations section of the Edwards undergraduate
website contains detailed information on each major and possible
career opportunities available to students in each of the majors.
students.edwards.usask.ca/undergrad /
Requesting a Major
Request a first and second major choice using the online
Program Planner between January 15 - 17, 2020. You will be
emailed your major acceptance by January 20, 2020.
Program Planning
Program planning ensures that you:
1. Plan classes for 2020 Spring/Summer and 2020-21 Fall/Winter.
2. Obtain permission to register in upper-year restricted COMM
courses when registration starts in June.
3. Plan to register for the appropriate number of classes to fulfill
degree requirements and qualify for graduation.
Edwards analyzes program planning data to adjust the scheduling of
offerings to meet demand. All students with a major must submit a
program plan each year until they complete program requirements to
graduate. Program planning is not the same as registration – you must
program plan to get approval for restricted classes so you can register in
June.
Program Planning window opens and guides are available
online January 21. Submit your program plan for 2020-21 by
January 31 at 4:30 pm.
