TripMission: MKAstudentswill livewithhostfamiliesforabout10days overSpringBreak. During theday, theywill visit PariswiththeMKAchaperones. Atnightandduring theoneweekendwearethere, theywill immerse themselves inFrench languageand culturewiththeirhostfamily.InApril,theDaniéloustudentsmakeareturnvisit to joinMKA families here for tendays. They spendmost daysexploringNewYorkCity,spendingeveningsandweekendswiththeirMKAhostfamilies.

FRENCHLANGUAGEIMMERSION

Trip Hightlights: Students will seehighlights of Paris, including the EiffelTower, theOrsayMuseum,SacréCoeur,a boat right on the Seine, etc. At night,studentswill spend timewith their hostfamily, immersing themselves in theculture,language,andcuisineofaFrenchfamily. On the weekend, families willdecide what to do with the MKAparticipant. Students from Level 1 andupare encouraged to participate. Thereis a maximum number of 15 studentswho can go, so priority will be given tostudents in the upper level languageclasses. Most of the families have astrongworking knowledgeof English, soeven level 1 students have participatedand benefitted fromthe exchangeexperience.

BackpackZionNationalPark:Experiencethemoststunningvistasofthesouthwestas this 9-dayprogramexploresall realmsofmajesticZion National Park by backpacking beneath thetowering walls, through the slot canyons and highabovetheparkontheAngel’sLandingTrail.

CanoeBlackCanyon:Overnight on the Colorado River paddling canoes fortwo days from Hoover Dam down the famous BlackCanyonoftheColorado.Alongthewaysoak innaturalhot springs, explore themany side canyons and sandybeaches, and discover ancient sauna caves andmysterioushieroglyphicsthousandsofyearsold. LeadershipCurriculum:

A subset of ARCC’s Instructor Staff Training istaught to MKA students during this course. Weintroduce leadership devices such as the NOLSQuadrantsandTrueColorsTesttodetermineeachstudent’s leadership style. We implement thisnewfound knowledge with students assuming therole of Course Leader. In this capacity, eachstudent experiences responsibility not just forthemselves,butfortheentiregroup,leadingthemthroughgroupchallengesandtasks.

France:TakeaguidedtourofParisbyfootand metro. Explore Monet’s GivernyGardens, the Musée du Louvre with amuseum guide, Sacré-Coeur Basilica anddiscoverPlaceduTertre.TourandbikethePalace of Versailles and examine theincreasinglyrespectedStreetArtgraffitiartin Paris. In Avignon visit the Place del’Horloge and the Palais des Papes, whichbecametheresidenceofthePopesin1309.Explore ancient Roman ruins and theProvencal town of Les Baux-de-Provence,thoughttobeoneofthemostpicturesquevillagesinFrance.

Spain: Examine the lifeofDali inhishometown of Figueres. In Barcelonatake a guided visit of Gaudi’s mostfamous and persistent work, theunfinished Sagrada Família (SacredFamily) church.
