The seven-time QSSF Coach of the Year winner also earned CIS Coach of the Year honors in 2002-03 and 2007-08, the same season he guided the Martlets to the team’s first-ever National Championship. As head coach of the National Women’s Team in 2007-08, Smith led Team Canada to a gold medal at the 2007 4 Nations Cup in Leksand, Sweden and a silver medal at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Harbin,

Educational Sessions – Block 1 – 10:00-11:00am
Get Your 150 (Room 152)
Presented by Jayne Culbert - Associate Director of Recreation and Sports Clubs – Queen’s University
The Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend adults accumulate at least 150 minutes of
moderate to vigorous aerobic physical activity per week. Students know the benefits to being active
but they still don't do it. Queen's Athletics & Recreation has initiated the "Get Your 150" campaign to
promote just that... Get Your 150. Hear a brief description about the Queen's campaign and their
Ambassador program, but also learn what others are doing to encourage students to get active.
Laurier's Student Leadership Model (Room 352)
Presented by Jennifer O’Neill - Coordinator, Recreation Programs – Wilfrid Laurier University
At Laurier, students occupy key senior roles in the administration of the program. Although we ask a
lot from our students, we believe that our demands serve to develop strong and employable graduates
from our program. Come find out how we recruit, hire, train and mentor our staff at Laurier.
Not Playing Nice? (Room 172)
Presented by Perry Karnofsky – Manager, Campus Recreation – McGill University
The presentation will cover some case studies regarding inappropriate/un-sportsmanlike conduct in
the McGill Intramural program, along with the program’s method of dealing with poor behavior.
Vendor Presentation - Fieldturf (Room 341)
Presented by Darren Gill
Educational Sessions – Block 2 – 11:15-12:15
School Programming and Camps on Campus (Room 152)
Presented by Megan Locker - Intramural & PALS Coordinator – Brock University
Synopsis: This presentation will go over a quick overview of the programs that Brock University offers
for school groups throughout the year. These offerings include non-traditional sports and sports that
schools would typically not have seen. Included will be the safety risks associated with having school
groups come on campus as well as the safety requirements and requests from school boards. This
presentation is coming out of the increased awareness and concerns towards health and safety of
students while on school trips and the obstacles that are faced.
Inclusion in Recreation – Not Judging a Book by Its Cover (Room 352)
Presented by Andrew Doyle - Graduate Assistant-Facilities/NIRSA Region I Student Leader - Quinnipiac
University
Do you know who’s walking through your doors? This session will cover an often misunderstood hot topic in both higher education and campus recreation: inclusion. Through empirical experience and modern research there will be a discussion of best practices, understanding that diversity does not equal inclusion and that everybody has a unique background that is not identifiable at first glance.
Workplace Wellness Solutions (Room 172)
Presented by Lena Stuart - Strength & Conditioning Coach, BFA (Dance), PMA-CPT – McGill University
An active, healthy workplace creates a supportive environment for employees to be physically active.
Simply meeting Canada's physical activity guidelines doesn't erase the health risks associated with
prolonged sitting, which include heart disease, type 2 diabetes and early death. Simple restorative
exercise tools can improve metabolic health and increase body awareness. Through education and
awareness, those of us working in Recreation can be trailblazers, creating environments that
encourage physical activity, not only in the gym, but throughout the day.
Vendor Presentation - Nevco (Room 341)
Presented by Francyne Caron
Francyne Caron will present a new product line in the field of sports display (scoreboard, electronic
display, video screen) using examples from Canada and the United States, included with various
completed projects for basketball, football, baseball and hockey.

Educational Sessions – Block 3 – 14:00-15:0000
Bridging the Gap - Connecting Clinical Settings to Campus Recreation (Room
152)
Presented by Alexandra Brodka - Assistant Outdoor Recreation Coordinator - McMaster University
Students attend campus clinics and wellness centres to address various components of health and
wellbeing. Campus recreation facilities provide opportunities for students to engage in physical activity
and participate in programming which in turn promotes wellness. By introducing Clinical Recreation
Consultants to campus wellness centres, clients would be able to have their recreation needs assessed,
receive recommendations for suitable and accessible activities, receive support to meet their goals and
have the opportunity to follow up with a professional regarding their progress. This innovative
approach to engaging students in recreation opportunities would allow wellness centres and
recreation programs, who are both working towards similar goals, to work together. This presentation
aims to create some dialogue surrounding the relationship between clinical settings and campus
recreation hubs. It will explore the benefit to students as well as the benefit to the institution. Let’s
bridge the gap.

Play is fun, but we're not just about play. Do we think of ourselves as part of the Health Care continuum?
Do we think of sport and recreation as Health Care? We must play a role in influencing and advocating for
our role in changing the health of our population. As Provincial and Federal governments wrestle with
allocating funding to "health care" instead of "sick care", post-secondary Recreation needs to be at the
table. Come hear some thoughts on this subject and participate in the debate. What's our role? How should
we contribute?
