NATIONAL FIELD FEATURED AT SLAM DUNK TO THE BEACH: A national slate of high school
teams will participate in the return of the renowned Slam Dunk to the Beach basketball
tournament. Sixteen teams—representing seven states and the District of Columbia—will be
competing in this year’s event. The tournament, long a staple of the national high school
basketball calendar, is returning for the first time since 2003. It will feature 18 games, with two
sessions of three games each, over the course of three days.
RANKINGS REPRESENTED IN FIRST STATE: The field which makes its way to Cape Henlopen
High School this week is headlined by three schools who currently occupy spots in the USA
Today’s weekly national rankings. #5 Roselle Catholic High School (Roselle, NJ), #17 Our
Savior New American School (Centereach, NY) and #23 Christ the King High School (Middle
Village, NY) are all spending their winter break in the First State. Gonzaga College High School
(Washington, D.C.) has also spent time in USA Today’s national rankings this season.
HERALDED RECRUITS TAKE CENTER STAGE: Several of the best high school prospects in the
country will be in Delaware to compete. Six of ESPN's top 100 players in the class of 2015 and
three more of the Worldwide Leader in Sports' top 60 players in the class of 2016 are coming to
Slam Dunk to the Beach. The most highly regarded player in the field is Our Savior New
American School's Cheick Diallo. The Centereach, NY native is the No. 7 senior in the
country, according to ESPN. Gill St. Bernard’s School’s Tyus Battle headlines the class of
2016, as the No. 14 junior in the country and the top-ranked point guard according to ESPN.
GAMES CAN BE SEEN ANYWHERE: The Delaware Sports Commission has kindly secured
basketball fans an opportunity to watch every game of Slam Dunk to the Beach even if they
cannot make it to Cape Henlopen High School. ESPN3 will deliver live the December 29 game
between Roselle Catholic High School (NJ) and Gonzaga College High School (DC) at 6 p.m.
My Cozi TV Delmarva will broadcast every other tournament contest over the air. Broadcasts of
those games will also be streamed live online at NFHSNetwork.com. “This multipronged media
deal is a huge coup for Slam Dunk to the Beach,” said Delaware Sports Commission
Chairman, Dr. Matthew Robinson. “To be able to work with the Worldwide Leader in Sports,
as well as a pair of strong local entities, provides us with a comprehensive level of coverage
most tournaments simply cannot offer. We will have 17 of our 18 games on television plus
ESPN3, which will provide the perfect opportunity to showcase both the state of Delaware as
well as these incredibly talented student-athletes.” ESPN3 coverage will be available online at
WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and streamed on
televisions through Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
All other telecasts will be produced by the NFHS Network, which is the nation’s leading
destination for live coverage of high school sports and events. My COZiTV is available on
Comcast Cable on Channel 204, and on Mediacom Cable Channel 99.

SLAM DUNK TO THE BEACH MEDIA INFORMATION
NOTABLE SLAM DUNK TO THE BEACH ALUMNI
SLAM DUNK TO THE BEACH HISTORY: Slam Dunk to the
Beach is back. To properly put into perspective just how
prominent a place the Lewes, DE event carved out in the
basketball hierarchy, some stats are required. The
tournament, which hosted some of the nation’s premier
players, including LeBron James (’01), Dwight Howard
(’03), Kevin Durant (’03), Carmelo Anthony (’00) and
J.J. Redick (’01), was like a highway to the NBA.
Slam Dunk to the Beach featured 48 players who were
drafted by NBA teams during a 10-year stretch from 1998-
2007. During that time, 33 guys were taken in the opening
round. If you narrow it down to a six-year stretch of drafts
from 2001-2006, a remarkable 13 alums from Slam Dunk
to the Beach were chosen among the top-10 picks.
That means 22 percent of all top-10 selections during that
timeframe made their way through the First State,
including the second overall picks of the 2001, 2002 and
2007 drafts (Tyson Chandler, Jay Williams and Durant)
and the top overall choices of the 2003 and 2004 drafts
(James and Howard).
SLAM DUNK TO THE BEACH ALUMNI BY THE NUMBERS: 34 NBA All-Star selections
