Age of StudentsChildren between the ages of 5 and 17 are to beenrolled in school.

KindergartenKindergarten is required for all students whowill be age five on or before sept. 1, 2013. Toenroll, parents must present their child’s birth certificate, a s.C. Certificate of Immunization,and proof of residence.

New Studentsstudents new to the district, regardless of grade,should register at the school in their attendancezone as soon as possible before school begins onAugust 21.

Length of School DayThe day for 5K-grade 5 begins at 7:45 and endsat 2:25. The day for grades 6-8 begins at 8:30and ends at 3:45, and the day for grades 9-12begins at 8:30 and ends at 3:40. (Parents shouldnote that times may vary slightly in the middleand high schools.)

ImmunizationsIn addition to shots students must have beforethey begin school, all seventh-graders are required to have the Tdap vaccine beforeschool begins. Parents should contact theirhealthcare provider or DHeC to determine ifother immunizations or boosters are needed.

School Bus TransportationTo meet the morning bus, elementary studentsshould be ready at 6:40 and secondary students,at 7:30. Adjustments in time will be madeshortly after school begins.

MealsBreakfast will cost $1.00 daily. Lunch will cost$2.00 for elementary students and $2.25 formiddle and high school students.

Feesstudents in grades 6-12 must pay a one-time$60 athletic fee to be listed on a team roster. Thefee must be paid before the student can receive ateam uniform.

AttendanceParents and students should note attendance regulations in school handbooks. students donot want to jeopardize promotion to the nextgrade or date of graduation by not attendingschool.

students should present a written excuse forany absence to their teacher or attendance officeon the day following the absence.

School Closings or DelaysParents of students and district employees willbe notified of any decisions about opening, delaying, or closing school early through thedistrict’s telecommunication system. This information will also be put on the district’swebsite (www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us), on Facebook and relayed to area radio and TV stations.

Parents are advised to work with their chil-dren on a plan to follow when school has to dis-miss early. Children who are car-riders shouldknow who will pick them up, and children whoride school buses should know what to do whenthey arrive home if parents are not there.
