What’s that noise?

Peafowl, Pavo cristatus, were introduced here by Lucky Baldwin in the late 1800's. Since then they have thrived, becoming, like sparrows and pigeons, a naturalized species. Only the colorful males of this pheasant related bird species are called peacocks: females are called peahens and the birds as a whole are referred to as peafowl. Not only are they colorful but peafowl keep the Arboretum's snail population to a minimum.

March 2008 Meeting Review

Brad Adams, Irrometer

The March 20, 2008 educational meeting was held at the lovely Huntington Gardens in San Marino. Brad Adams was our speaker from The Irrometer Co. of Riverside, CA.  Since 1951 “Irrometer” has manufactured soil moisture measurement and control products for optimizing irrigation.

OUR MISSION The Arboretum's

mission is to cultivate our natural, horticultural and historic resources for learning, enjoyment and inspiration.

May 2008 Meeting Review The May 15, 2008

educational meeting was held at the stunning ValleyCrest Tree Company Corporate headquarters in Calabasas.

Dr. John Law, plant physiologist, made his presentation on the basic requirements for establishing a healthy environment when relocating palm species.

August 2008 Meeting Review

On August 21, 2008 the Street Tree Seminar meeting took place at the rare Madrona Marsh Preserve in the City of Torrance. Torrance once prospering in oil bought the land from the Kelt Oil Co. for $1, preventing the 42 acre marsh from development in the late 70’s early 80’s.

October 2008 Meeting Review Mauget hosted the

October 08 Oktoberfest meeting at their offices in Arcadia.

Mauget provides products that restore, maintain and enhance tree health, while preserving the integrity of the environment by providing the most innovative and effective products and application methods.

December 2008 Meeting

The officer installation and Scholarship program were presented at Cal Poly Pomona’s Kellogg West meeting center.

We extend our gratitude to

Cal PolyPomona
