THREE QUALIFY TO 2006 FIFA WOMENS U-20sThe USA, Canada and the host Mexico qualified to the FIFA WomensUnder-20 World Championship in Russia later this year after finishingin the top three at the 2006 CONCACAF Tournament held in Crdoba& Veracruz from 18-27 January.
The USA captured their first CONCACAF Womens U-20 Title after a 3:2 victo-
ry over Canada in the 2006 Final at the Estadio Luis Pirata Fuentes in Veracruz,Mexico on 27 January.With both teams already qualified to the FIFA event, the stars & stripes took
an early lead in the CONCACAF finale thanks to an eighth minute strike by AmyRodriguez. Aysha Jamani tied it for the maple leafs in the 56th minute.
Jodi-Ann Robinson gave Canada a 2:1 advantage on 60 minutes but JessicaRodstedt leveled the match for the USA 12 minutes later.
Lauren Cheney scored the game-winner for the stars & stripes in the 81stminute, ending the maple leafs nine-game winning streak in CONCACAFWomens Youth Qualification.
In an earlier encounter on 27 January, Mexico gained the Confederationsfinal berth to the 2006 FIFA Womens U-20 World Championship after defeatingJamaica 4:1 in the CONCACAF Tournaments Third-Place game at the Estadio
Luis Pirata Fuentes.The tricolores opened the scoring 19 minutes into the match with an own
goal by the reggae girlz Christina Murray, but Venicia Reid tied it in the 33rd.Nancy Gandarilla gave Mexico a 2:1 lead two minutes into the second half
and then Vernica Charlyn Corral, added to her tournament leading eight goals,with scores in the 68th and 90th minutes, respectively, for the 4:1 final score.

CANADAS LANG SCORES FASTEST GOAL IN TOURNAMENT HISTORYHaving not played in Canadas first two Group A matches, Kara Lang made an immediate impact forthe team in their third encounter against Mexico on 22 January scoring the fastest goal in the historyof CONCACAF Womens Youth Qualification, just four seconds into the match at the Estadio LuisPirata Fuentes in Veracruz.
After the initial kickoff, Lang took a one touch pass and then hammered a shot from midfield that
sailed over the head of the Mexican goalkeeper Anjuli Ladron De Guevara into the back of the net.

The 2006 CONCACAF Champions Cupkicks-off this month with eight teamsfrom across the region competing forthe title of CONCACAFs top club.
Four-time Champions Cup winnerClub Amrica of Mexico will meet
Caribbean Champion Portmore UnitedFC of Jamaica, who are making theirfirst appearance in the tournament.
Making their second appearance atthe annual CONCACAF event, the USAsNew England Revolution will play two-time CONCACAF Champion LDAlajuelense of Costa Rica.
Another quarterfinal series has CDToluca of Mexico, who have won the
Champions Cup on two previous oca-sions, facing another double winner ofthe CONCACAF event, CD Olmpia ofHonduras.
The final tournament pairing hasthe three-time winners Deportivo
Saprissa from Costa Rica taking on theLos Angeles Galaxy of the USA.Saprissa is also the defending CONCA-CAF Champion, while the Galaxy arethe last USA club to have won theChampions Cup (2000).

CANADA & COSTA RICAAPPOINT COACHESCanada and Costa Rica last month
appointed their respective coaches forthe inaugural CONCACAF Beach SoccerQualifying Tournament where twoteams will progress to the 2006 FIFABeach Soccer World Cup scheduled tobe held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil inNovember.
Futsal coach Ross Ongaro will leadCanada into the sands of Rio deJaneiro, while Mirta Brito De La Cuestais in charge of Costa Rica as shebecomes the first woman to coach amens squad in the Federations history.
Both teams join Cayman Islands,Jamaica, Mexico and USA at the CON-CACAF qualifying tournament whichwill take place from 5-9 March along-side South Americas (CONMEBOL) six-team Beach Soccer Qualification eventin Rio de Janeiro.
The top two from eachConfederations group (CONCACAF &CONMEBOL) will not only progress tothe 2006 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup,but will also claim a place in the tour-
naments semifinals where they will
compete for a spot in the final whicwill crown an overall champion for tCONCACAF and CONMEBOL event onthe 12 March.
This years 16-team FIFA BeachSoccer World Cup is the second tourment to be held; the inaugural eventook place in May 2005 at the
Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeirowhere France defeated Portugal in tfinal on penalties after a 3:3 draw inregulation and overtime periods.
1938 WORLD CUP VETRETURNS TO CUBA
The sole surviv-ing member of theCuban Team thattook part in the1938 FIFA WorldCup in France,Juan RomperredesTuas returned toCuba to take partin the Da delFutbolista (Day ofFootball Player) in
La Habana on Sunday, 11 December.The annual event staged by the
Asociacin de Ftbol de Cuba, honoursthe countrys best players of the year(Men Lester Mor; Women NiurkaCuesta) and also commemorates the
first-ever football match played on theisland between local clubs CD Hatueyand Rovers AC on 11 December 1911.
The ex-forward Tuas, who is now88 and currently resides in Mexico,was presented with the award ofGloria del Deporte Cubano (CubanSports Glory).
This award is a great honour forme as I receive this in my nativecountry where they have enormousfootball potential, said Tuas, whohelped Cuba to their only World Cup
appearance in 1938.As one of the many activities dur-
ing the Da del Futbolista, Tuas,made the honorary kickoff beforeCiudad de La Habana defeatedGranma 1:0 in a 2005 CampeonatoNacional de Ftbol league match at LaHabanas Estadio Pedro Marrero.
Tuas, who scored one goal andplayed in all three World Cup matches,helped Cuba to the quarterfinals aftereliminating Romania by a score of 2:1in the replay match on 9 June 1938 in
Toulouse, after the teams earned a 3:3tie in the first round encounter playedin the same venue four days earlier.The cubanos were eliminated bySweden (8:0) in the quarterfinals inAntibes, France on 12 June 1938, butCubas victory over Romania would befirst by a CONCACAF team in a WorldCup held in Europe.
After France 1938, Tuas playedprofessionally with Real Club Espaa(MEX) winning league championshipsin 1941-42 and 1944-45, seasons.
PUMAS UNAM LOSES ON PENALTIES IN COPASUDAMERICANA FINAL
Pumas UNAM (MEX) were beaten 4:3 on penalty kicks by BocaJuniors (ARG) in the final of the 2005 Copa Nissan Sudamericanathe Estadio Alberto J. Armando in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 18
December, 2005.The encounter went to penalty kicks after Final Series was tied at 2:2 on
aggregate when the second-leg in Buenos Aires ended in 1:1. Martn Palermogave Boca Juniors a 1:0 lead in the 31st minute but Bruno Marioni scored theequaliser via a penalty kick in the 54th minute of the second half.
Roberto Abbondanzieri, Marcelo Delgado, Federico Insa and Rolando Schiavall scored in the penalty shootout, whilePalermo and Guillermo Barros Schelotto missthe target for Boca Juniors. Meanwhile, PumUNAM got goals from Martn Cardetti, BrunoMarioni and Gonzalo Pineda, but LeandroAugusto and Joaqun Beltrns shots were savand Gerardo Galindos kick hit the goal post.
This was the first time in the brief historythe Copa Nissan Sudamericana that a CONCACAF club has reached the final. Pumas UNAMare also the first Mexican club since CDSC CrAzul (in the 2001 Copa Libertadores) to com
pete for a CONMEBOL title.

The XXV Ordinary CONCACAFCongress will be held in Munich,Germany on 5 June, just days beforethe FIFA Congress and the start of the

ADVANCE TO COPA LIBERTADORES
Tigres UANL and CD Guadalajaraadvanced as two of the three Mexicanclub representatives to the 2006 Copa
Libertadores after eliminating CFMonterrey and Veracruz, respectively,in the InterLiga (Prelibertadores)Finals in Carson, California USA on 15January.
The eight-team tournament con-cluded at the Carsons Home Depot
Center when, for a second consecutiveyear, Tigres UANL and CD Guadalajaraearned the allotted Mexican spots, 2and 3, respectively, to the CopaLibertatores. Tigres UANL and CDGuadalajara join Pumas UNAM, whichpreviously claimed the Mexico 1 berth,to the 2006 CONMEBOL event.
