PRESiDENT'S REPORT
Once again its that time of the year that we look back on the past season and record
the 11ighs and 10\v5 of the past season.
DINNER DANCEthe season started with the most successful event with well in excess of 160 people in
attendance and a good night was had by all who attended.
AV' lARDSThis season has been an all time record for awards gained for the club. Gaining
awards during the season is a way of lifesavers increasing their knowledge and gaining
extra experience required for patrolling at a high standard. My thanks goes to Steve
Rumble and Daniel Kiak and all of the training instructors for the work done trainingcandidates for awards. Once again it was good to sec the older members and some
parents of members gaining such awards as radio. first-aid and advanced resuscitation
certificates. There is a place for the non active member on patrol roster once you
gained these awards. This leaves the active award member at the waters edge.
(A list of aw ards gained follows in this report.)
PATROLSThis season has been a very treacherous year with large swells running mostweekends. the attendance of patrols have been good and members have taken their
commitment to attend or to get a rep la cemen t for their patrols. The patrol list printed
later on in this report shows that we had 67 members clo patrols over the season, and
out of that list 48 attended 4 or more patrols which is around 16 hours patrolling. Theassociation's minimum requirements to compete at carnivals is 12 hours so we have
had a good average turn out this season.
COI\1PETITION
With th e acquisition of new boards.skis and a gear trailer Wye River lias been having
success at both major and restricted carnivals this season. The end result two l stplaces by Tim Friend at the Vic titles, a 3r(1 p lace by the Open Relay and a 3rcl place
by Peter Gardner at the Veterans carnival. Congratulations to all those members who
represented Vv'ye River during the winter and summer seasons.
C LUB CHAMPION SH IPSOver the long weekend in January we ran the club championships, congratulation go
to al l section winners after tw o clays of competition in trying conditions
(A list of all winners follows in this report.')
FUND RA iSINGWe once again had our two tin rattles in Melbourne and Geelong with rain beating on
L IS on both occasions, but still ending up with a good total. (I think th e traffic must
have taken pi lyon us.)
Crayfish raffles takings were clown on past years \ \ ' ]111 a lot of the work falling to the
same old few. This area is being looked into for next season and hopefully a roster
will be set up for these raffles.

On the long weekend in January the spit roast was held and everyone who attended
enjoyed the function. Thanks (0 all those who helped on the clay.
The fund raising clay in March which was normally held at the Nolan Huston and
Lever houses had to be moved to a new venue because of council regulations. Thanksto Paul Brown for allowing us to use the front section of the hotel at such short
notice, and for those who !1elp set up ancl worked on the clay.
A prof t of $3600 was made on the clay.
Our B B Q 's at the club house still were as popular as ever over the summer thanks to
all those who worked at them.
r would like to thank all those who have supplied their goods services and labour atany of the clubs fund raising functions during the year.
BUNKHOUSE
Plans are with the council at present and we have \Villiams!O\vn Tafe College at the
ready to start construction once approval has been given by council. If all goes to planhopefully we will have the bunkhouse structure up by Christmas.
A\VARD WINNERS
I would like to congratulate David Rooks for winning the Roy Gilbert trophy and Ben
Storey the JJ j\'lorisey trophy, both members die! a lot of work over the past season.
CO IV I I 'd ITTEE
I would like to all the committee for their attendance and input at meeting during the
year and the support that I have had from the Executive members of the committee
over the past twelve months.
Finally I would like to thank Julie and the family for the support and time they haveallowed me to give to Wye River SLSC.

SECRETARIES REPOR1~
Reflecting on last seasons brings mixed results. the club continued its streng presenceat carnivals, healthy membership, gooe! fundraising and more than adequate patrols.
A ll members need to work hard to ensure these areas of activity remain at this level.
However there was a down side to th e se aso n. For the first time in m any years adisciplinary committee had to be form ed. This anc1 some other incidents I think pointto a decided lack of communication between various levels of membership. there is noquick cure for this communication breakdown but J would encourage all members tobecome more involved in club and not leave it to the same few people. Make yourfeelings known so intelligent and rational debate may solve some of the problemseither perceived or otherw ise.
Work and p erson al commitments do not allow me th e time needed to give the job ofSecretary my full attention. I w ish the new Secretary Maxenne Nydam all the best, Iknow YOll will give her your full support. Hope to see you all next season

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT
As the last year of my Captaincy draws to a close I would like to take thisopportunity to thank all club members and associates for the success of the last twoyears. When I became Club Captain I hoped to increase om membership base,
improve the quality and quantity of some equipment, continue the fundraising effort, have good time and build bunkhouse facilities for our female members.
W ell as the above indicates it has been a busy two years. But I think yO ll w ill agreethat \ve have achieved a lot in that time. Thanks to the support and hard work of alot of members our membership has taken off to levels that older members find
hard to believe. For some reason lifesaving is suddenly fashionable and peopleappear out or the woodwork as the list of new awards testify.
Despite tight fiscal policy in the lead up to the new bunkhouse the club purchasedsix new competition boards, Then to carry them D enis O 'Brien organized the long
awaited gear and LR.B . trailer (many thanks). Not only did we get somecompetition equipment we also developed some competitors who excelled them
selves w ith some fine medals during the year and at the state titles.congratulationsto al l our competitors.
But the most pleasing result was the increase in active patrolling members. The
red uction ill work load on the patrols from previous years meant that the ti me spentat Wye River was a Jot more enjoyable and relaxed for a lo t of people. If 1 couldtake this opportunity to thank all members new and old for their dedication to Patrol
duties and to ask to keep up the good work in the coming years. The more handsthe lighter the workload.Another pleasant surprise for me was the number of peoplewho have been around Wyc River for several years who chose to become moreactive within the club, thank you for your involvement, welcome to the club and Ihope that you have many enjoyable years as a member of the association.
That brings to th e b un kh ou se , what started out as an add on bunkhouse and toiletsfor the females has evolved into a new bunkhouse 10 be built on a new site adjacent
to the fire brigade. This project would not be possible except for the massivefundraising effort over the past few years. 1 would like to (hank Martin Gecrings
for his efforts and leadership in not only fundraising but also for all the work hehas put in to ensure that the new bunkhouse gets off tile ground The b enefits from
the new club rooms will I am sure set the club for successful years ahead. Thanksalso to all those m em bers who worked so hard a\ the tin raulcs and fundraising
efforts over the last few years.

Lastly on a personal note , I sincerely thank all (11O \ewho supported me this season
with the eli fficult job of Chief Instructor in particular Steve Rumb le thank you all.
The 92 / 93 slimmer season has been an excellent one, A record 78 awards were
gained with 13 new Bronze Medallions.
It was encouraging for the first ,to see people out side of the active club members to
also receive awards, well clone to all those people, The past season saw ten new active
members join the club, a warm welcome to Diana Kasal, Brenden Jowett, David Gall,Steven Thompson, Brel l A ndcrson, N arissa Trencrry, K ick Edvard, Pan la Chaloupka,Michael Gurry and Taria Macmanus.
Without the fantastic work of those that contributed to the tedious task of training, the
record number of awards could not have been possible. On behalf of Steve Rumble

SOC IAL SECRETARY REPORT
Well my reign as social secretary has come to an end, and r would like to express myth an k s to all those people in the club who have assi steel me d u ri n g th e past year.
My initial energy and creativity soon dissipated in the beginning, as r came to learnthat great ideas needed careful planning, anci above al l co operation and participationby others.I would like to remind all, that people arc posted to positions on thecommittee.they do require support and input from you members.
Finally, r hope the future w ill see the club continue to grow in numbers as well ascharacter.
