ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM

“…one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one

faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all

and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:1-6)

Jesus’ prayer for unity

"that they may all he one; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they

also may be in us, so that the world may

believe that thou hast sent me.”

John 17:21

Jesus’ prayer for unity

"I in them and thou in me, that they may become

perfectly one, so that the world may know

that thou hast sent me ..."

vs.23a

The Church is one because of her source:

"the highest exemplar and source of this mystery

is the unity, in the Trinity of Persons,

of one God, the Father and the Son in the Holy Spirit.”

259

The Church is one because of her founder:

for "the Word made flesh, the prince of peace, reconciled all

men to God by the cross, . . . restoring the unity of

all in one people and one body.“

260

The Church is one because of her "soul":

"It is the Holy Spirit, dwelling in those who believe and pervading and ruling over the entire Church, who brings about that wonderful

communion of the faithful and joins them together so intimately in

Christ that he is the principle of the Church's unity.” 261

Paul makes over 30 references to the church as a body,

and illustrates clearly this is how we work together, and live as close as Christians

are to live.

For as we have many members in one body,

and all members have not the same office: So we, being many,

are one body in Christ, and every one

members one of another. (Romans 12:4-5)

For we being many are one bread, and one body:

for we are all partakers of that one bread.

(1 Corinthians 10:17)

For as the body is one,and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:12)

For by one Spirit are we all baptized

into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles,

whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink

into one Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12:13)

But now are they many members,

yet but one body. (1 Corinthians 12:20)

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither

male nor female: for you are all one

in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)

That in the dispensation of the fulness of times

he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth;

even in him: (Ephesians 1:10)

And that he might reconcile both unto God

in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity

thereby: (Ephesians 2:16)

There is one body, and one Spirit,

even as ye are called in one hope

of your calling; (Ephesians 4:4)

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,

to the which also you are called in one body;

and be you thankful. (Colossians 3:15)

. . . the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body,

which is the church, Col.1:24

For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones…
