Introduction
The Dean's Grant Project at Southern Illinois University at
Carbondale was planned to introduce awareness and informational
.competencies into regular teacher education preparation. The first
year of the project was devoted to developing materials and
strategies for introducing knowledge and skills into the core
sequence of teacher education courses.
This bibliography was developed to provide regular education
teachers and students in pre-service teacher education with a list of
special education materials developed for use with handicapped children._-
An effort was made to obtain and review as much material as was
possible *n developing this list. Letters wet% sent to many of the
companies and materials were provided free-of-charge for this project.
The materials were analyzed for the following information:
Grade level, skill area, and components. The mattrials bibliography
includes the name of the material and the company as well as these
three components. The bibliography was prepared for teachers, serving
grades K-12..
This set Of materials was prepared to mott-two goals of this
project: The first loal was to create a set_of materials and
resources which could be used by target faculty members *n the training0-
process. This bibliography helped us to meet this goal by providing
faculty members with a bibliography of materials which they, then,
could use in their classroom with students.
A second goal it helped to meet was: to develop materials for
use by students and faculty in the teacher education program at SIU-C
4
and to provide for dissemination of these materials. After the %
materials were developed they were used in the training of,faculty
who then used the materials in Aeir methods classes. In this'way
students became acquainted with material wIlich they could then use
in their teaching field.
A final goal that this material supportedbmas one to.implement
components developed for course syllabi in university course programs.
As cited above, this material was incorporated.into various course
components-taught by methods faculty at the univrersity.
Feedback from both students and facultfg,as well 'as supervising
teachers, indicates that this material is usgful to thv regular
classroom teacher.
