Look after your eyes!

• Look away from the screen EVERY 15 MINUTES! (focus on something in the distance)

• Adjust the brightness and contrast on your screen

• Avoid glare on the screen

• Avoid using 1 pixel brush- if you must, then increase the scale on your image to avoid eyestrain

• Screen should be in front of you at eye level ( optimally 38%below horizontal -lower if wearing bifocals)

• If you wear glasses, you should ideally have a pair that blocks UV light and focuses 2-3 feet away for especially for screen work!

14

Posture is important!Posture is important!

• Upper and lower back supported• Hips against the back of the chair• Knees level or slightly lower than hips• Stay ‘broad’ across the chest• Rest every 15 to 30 minutes• Warm up before work

*Try the ‘5 Minute Yoga Stretches for Office Workers’

( poster on the wall beside the door of your office- you will be amazed what a difference it makes!)

15

Avoid RSIAvoid RSI

• Keep your wrists straight, resting on keyboard edge, fingers slightly down

• Upper and lower arms should be at right angles ( *use adjustable keyboard shelf!)

• Keyboard should be directly in front of you• Keep the Mouse as close as possible to the

keyboard (*alternative Mouse styles in stock-see Florence!)

• Alternate tasks and vary types of work• DO NOT IGNORE pain, fatigue, weakness

etc!

16

• Avoid using double pluggers, extension cords and power boards

• Turn power point off before unplugging

• Grasp the plug firmly- do not pull by the cord!

Electricity:Electricity:

17

while we are on the subject of electricity…

Dirty electricity or ‘EMF’ElectroMagnetic Frequency radiation is a

potential although not yet proven hazard. Our offices have been assessed and

measures taken to reduce the amount of EMF.

Please be aware that the worst radiation is emitted from the back and sides of a computer.

Mobile Phones also present a degree of risk so we recommend that

you do not keep your phone in your pocket.

The Management is following research into EMF and will respond to new information as it becomes available by taking the necessary steps to keep the offices safe for employees

18

• No smoking in the building or

within 3 meters of the entrance

• Any work with aerosol adhesives must be

done in the Exhaust Cabinet (Room 2)

• cover your coughs and sneezes to prevent

spreading infection to co-workers

19

Slips, trips and falls, etc

• Walkways are to be kept clear at all times

• If you spill something, mop it up! (the mop is in the Tearoom broom cupboard)

• Take care when stacking things-better 2 small piles than one that teeters…

• Please remember that the Urn in the Tearoom is BOILING WATER!
