Platform Success RatesCampaign success rates vary greatly between platforms and categories. When looking at the performance of a platform, the success rate on a category level is the most reliable indicator of how a platform performs.

The above graphs show overall success and failure rates across each platform’s entire category set. Indiegogo has the lowest success rate with 9%, followed by RocketHub with 13%. Pozible, an Australian platform, has the highest overall success rate at 58%, followed by Kickstarter 41% and Tubestart, a platform specializing in the video & film category, with a 32% success rate.

Platform Success RatesThe total number of successful and unsuccessful campaigns offers a quick way to measure a platform’s activity vs. success rate.

As we can see above, Indiegogo is by far the most active platform in terms of projects launched and also leads the field with 277,776 unsuccessful campaigns, followed by Kickstarter with 101,127 and Rockethub’s 5,451 projects that didn’t reach their funding goal. Kickstarter has the highest number of successful campaigns, currently at 70,812 successfully funded projects, albeit having hosted much fewer projects than Indiegogo.

Category Success RatesSuccess rates in the film and video category.

The Australian platform Pozible has a below average success rate in the film and video category, but still leads the field with 64% of projects reaching their goal, followed by Kickstarter with 41% and Tubestart with 32%. 11% of Indiegogo’s film and video projects reach their goals.

Category Success RatesTotal number of successful and unsuccessful projects in the film and video category.

Indiegogo has 45,285 film and video projects that didn’t reach their goal, followed by Kickstarter with 21,868 and Pozible with 494 projects.

Annual Funding in US$Total amount of annual funding per platform in the United States.

Data shows a rapid US growth of Kickstarter and Indiegogo in 2012 and 2013, followed by a sharp slowdown in growth in 2014 US funding for Indiegogo and even a recession for Kickstarter whose 2013 funding volume of $336 m was significantly higher than $282m as of December 14, 2014. Indiegogo shows a single-digit percentage point growth from $82m in 2013 to $88m as of December 14, 2014.

Funding LevelsThe distribution of funding levels reached shows how many percent of their funding goal was reached by projects on each platform.

As shown above, the majority of crowdfunding projects on Kickstarter and Indiegogo reach 1-20% of their funding goals

RewardsRewards (or perks) are the non-monetary tokens of appreciation or merchandise that backers receive for their support.

What’s interesting in the first graph is that Pozible has not only the highest success rate but also the highest number (64) of rewards sold (which equals donations received) per successful campaign. Kickstarter ranks second with an average of 51 donations and Tubestart with 36 rewards sold per successful campaign. The right graph shows the average number of rewards offered by successful film & video campaigns.

RewardsBest-selling reward price points across all platforms.

Coming up with the right pricing structure for donor rewards is crucial for any successful crowdfunding campaign. The above table shows the best-selling price-points across all platforms. The top-three rewards price-points range from $5 to $100, with the $25 price point being the overall best seller.
