Quality • With digital, we’re able to produce films in blu-ray and the quality is only getting better with advancements in tech such as 4K.

• Quality may be to the detriment of keeping with tradition. Christopher Nolan brought the biggest directors to the premiere of his TDK and raised this issue.

Cost-cutting • To record onto digital is incredibly cheap. Where a film shot on traditional film would have cost $50,000, it would only cost $10,000 on digital.

• External sound equipment is unnecessary with digital now, making it cheaper to produce.

• Shooting digital detracts away from the traditional method of film, Directors like Christopher Nolan are campaigning against this change.

Piracy • Advancements make it possible to get media out for cheaper, such as the in the case of VoD service Netflix.

• Faster download speeds make torrenting more accessible.

Exhibition • There is more of a variety to view films with choices such as 3D.

• Art-house cinemas are taking a hit as they don’t have the funds to move with the times.

Marketing • It’s now cheaper to reach the same size audience. The distribution team can now use methods such as marketing online to easily reach a mass market.

• There is a lot of competition for new marketing such as the viral method so it requires being a lot more creative than previously.

Access • It isn’t now just the cinemas that can exhibit films. TV, VoD, online, and DVD/Blu-Ray are all ways films can be viewed now.

• It is difficult to choose between the amount of choice that is available.

Marketing • Audiences can have more refined advertisements through websites that have algorithms that can choose films you may like on other likes.

• We are inundated with advertisement, everywhere we access has something that is trying to sell itself.

Audience as producers • Places such as Kickstarter now put the audience in control of a films budget, like the sci-fi film Iron Sky.

• Traditional film companies are under pressure with this new way of funding available.
