Nowadays, most of the employers are performing background check to know whether the candidate is right

as stated in resume or not.

Most of the employers outsource background check details to consumer reporting agencies who submits their report

in a stipulated time period.

The screening time always depends on different factors

from which some of them are in control of employers and some

of are not.

Identity Check :- Some identity checks happen instantly but there is a slim chance that the information is correct and

some takes up to 2 days.

In some states, identity check involves running a detailed check on the national ids like driver's

license, passport etc and in some states, the SSN number is the main priority.

The SSN number gives all details regrading the applicants address history, credit history or any uncivil activity etc.

Credit Check :- This check gives a total view of candidates credit history but takes 24-48hrs which

involves credit bureau records.

Employment verification :- This verification is the most complicated and takes more time rather than others.

This process includes calling the previous employer of the applicant to know the relevant past like period of

employment with the corporation or employee behavior etc.

Generally it takes 3 business days, but if it is MNC then it takes more longer.

Academic verification :- This check leads to the verification of schools and universities which also takes 2-3 business

days.

And if the candidate has international schooling then it adds more couple of days

to the verification.

Most of the institute releases the details immediately but some others require a release form

before sharing any details.

Professional qualification verification :- This

verification usually takes 48hrs maximum for sending

the details. But if the candidate has international

certification then it adds more hrs with it.

Criminal record check :- The time frame for checking criminal records varies from countries to countries.

In USA, the record search generally takes 2 business

days but if it's out of country then it takes 1-30days in some cases.

Motor vehicle records check :- This type of records check can take couple of days and weeks depending upon the

severity of search.

Reality Check :- If the candidate details are up to date then it only takes a 3days-1 week for delivering all the needed

details to an employer.

The most required information like full legal name, birth date and SSN etc

should be handy and if you lack then it can put the verification in halt.

If the employer or the candidate doesn't provide the needed details or release forms then the screening process

takes more time or comes to halt for the time being.

Incorrect information :- When a candidate gives wrong information or slightly misspells his/her name that can

ultimately slowdown the screening process.

So as a candidate you should verify the forms properly before submitting to the employer for screening.

The release forms must be signed by the candidates and candidates should be fully informed about the screening process

prior to signing any background check forms.

Sometimes background checks can be halted due to same name confusion. So as a candidate, you should give all your alias and

full names on the form.

Though a pre-employment screening is a extended process but when you receive a quality result, that will save your time in

long run.
