Earthship Windship

40 people from all around the world are coming to Batug - Dulag,

Leyte,from 22 February – 5 March

to help us build this structure together with the village builders

1. Soil mounded on top of structure keeps it on the ground

3. Rounded shape lets wind pass thru without resistance

2. It is very heavy

HOW IS THE BUILDING TYPHOON PROOF?

WHAT ARE OTHER BENEFITS OF WIND SHIP STRUCTURES?

Independent Off-Grid Solar Power

Indoor Grey-water system

Tropical Grey-Water System

Contained sewage treatment

Rainwater Harvesting

Wind Ships are built with old tyres, cans and glass bottles.

We also use some cement and metal works in the construction

300 pound steel belted rubber encased thermal mass brick using globally available by products of

modern civilization

Glass Bottle Wall

WHY IS IT GOOD TO USE WASTE AS BUILDING MATERIALS?

There is so much pollution and waste in the Philippines. We should

1. reduce waste2. Learn how to use waste so it does not fill up

our landfills

Let’s care for the earth

Uses natural building as well

Natural Building Finish on wall

SO, WHAT IS ACTUALLY COMING TO BATUG?

Architect drawing of Batug Wind Ship

Please note that Architect drawing always look nicer on paper

It is essentially 2 of these structures facing each other, with an arch

connecting the two rooftops

Details about the Wind Ship construction in Batug:

• Where: School ground• Size: 75 ft x 75 ft (Roughly ¼ the size of the school assembly filed)

• Use of building:i. typhoon bunker, ii. school classroom, iii. Training facility during weekends

SO, SHOULD WE BUILD A

WIND SHIP IN BATUG?

If the proposed Batug Wind Ship proves to

be successful, we plan to build one Wind Ship for each

Barangay in the future

This will help save the lives of many people;

not just in our Barangay, but all the Barangay’s in Dulag if

another Typhoon comes

This will be the first building of its kind in the Philippines, even in Asia

To be the first, we have to be bold and take the risk

in trying new things. Is Batug ready to give the

Wind Ship a try?
