HISTORY Founded in 1891 by Gerard Philips & his father Frederik

Philips. In 1895 Gerard’s younger brother Anton Philips entered

the family business at the age of 16. Since then it expanded rapidly resulting,

In 1907 => Metaalgloeilampfabriek.

In 1912 => Gloeilampenfabrieken. The brothers then expanded the business and PHILIPS

became the electronics multinational.

1920 => Vacuum Tubes 1931 => Philips Radio Receiver model 930A

1939 => Electric Razor, Philishave 1949 => Television sets. 1963 => Compact Audio Cassette Tape. 1972 => Worlds first home video cassette recorder N1500.

1997 =>DVD 2006 => Blu-ray. 2008 => Introduced flatscreen with  3D TV technology. 2009 =>Introduced the Philips Cinema 21:9 TV in a

widescreen mode for HDTVs with an LCD display using the aspect ratio.

PHILIPS IN INDIA It started in India at Kolkata in 1930 named as Philips

Electrical company (I) Pvt. Ltd. It comprised staff of 75 and was sales outlet for Philips lamp

imported from overseas. In 1938=>Philips India set up its first Indian lamp

manufacturing factory in Kolkata. In 1948 => First radio factory started in Kolkata. In 1957 =>Company converted into a public limited company

renamed “Philips India Ltd” In 1959 => A second radio factory was established near Pune.

(It was shut down in 2006)

In 1982 =>Philips brought colour television transmission to India with the supply of four outdoor broadcast vans to DD National during the IX Asian Games.

In 1996 =>The Philips Software Centre was established in Bangalore. It is now called the Philips Innovation Campus.

In 2008, Philips India entered a new product category, water purifiers designed and made in India, and exported to other countries.

The Philips Board of Management announced Mr. Rajeev Chopra as the Managing Director of Philips Electronics India Limited, effective January 1, 2011.
