Perimeter brick wall: street brick laid in lime mortar – a combination unique to port cities.

The end walls are 16 inches thick – 4 brick wythe; the front wall is 12 inches- 3 brick wythe, but the unfortunate loss of the front wall is because of inadequate load-bearing pressure and not wall thickness.

Note the material loss from each end of the building is similar in distance from each corner.

Two generations of mortar repairs since original construction – Note theoriginal 1845 mortar attached to the uppercorner of the bricks inside edge.
