Roy Halston Frowick, known as Halston was a popular clothing designer of the 1970s. Everyone who was anyone in the 70's was spotted wearing his designs at the discotheques.

He was fired from his own company in 1984 and in 1990 he passed away.

In 2008, however, Halston was revived. Liza Minnelli reviled the new collection along with new investor, movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. Along with the creative director Marios Schwab, Halston made its return. And earlier this year Sarah Jessica Parker was confirmed as the new Creative Director for its contemporary line Halston Heritage.

Roy Halston Frowick was born on April 23, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa; attended Indiana Univ. and the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1958 he moved to New York City, designing hats for Lilly Daché and later (1959-68) millinery and clothing for the fashionable Bergdorf Goodman department store. There he created several distinctive styles, most notably the pillbox hat for Jacqueline Kennedy. Opening his own salon in 1968, Halston became one of the most acclaimed designers of the 1970s, a favorite of movie stars, art-world denizens, and the general public, and a disco-era celebrity in his own right. His designs were classically simple, elegant, and chic.

Halston introduced Ultrasuede, popularized the cashmere twinset, caftan, halter dress, shirtwaist, spiral skirt, and knee-length pants, and added perfumes and luggage to his label. He also designed costumes for the Martha Graham Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and various stage and film productions.

The original thinking in hiring young British designer Marios Schwab at Halston and then creating Halston Heritage, helmed by Sarah Jessica Parker, seemed to be this: Place the still very commercially viable archive classics under SJP's watch, and leave Schwab room to develop a modern, original vision.

This collection tapped into all the drapey,

languid signatures that come to mind when you think of Halston's seventies heyday.

Halston also just announced that it is relaunching menswear with luxury and heritage lines. These lines will be managed by Neema Clothing and designed by Studio Mauro Ravizza Kreiger in Italy, unlike the label's womenswear, which is made in-house.

Halston is back!

Thank you for watching!
