Inside the bodega//ObserveHow is the stock arranged? Does the produce look fresh? What is the first stock that you see when you come in?-etc. etc. etc

The produce//- Fruits (Plantains,Oranges,Bananas) are stored in

boxes. In which they are going old quickly. One costumer complained about the quality of the bananas. Another wanted a bigger variety of fruits.

- Vegetables are in the in a display refrigerator, but they are piled up and unorganized.

Snack Food//- The bodega is stuffed with snack food that piles up

next to the counter.- There is a variety of chips, cookies, crackers, etc.- All these products are individually wrapped.- Positioned at the most prominent spots around the

counter and the entrance of the bodega

- It can be assumed that the snack foods are some of the most popular poducts sold at the bodega.

Beverages//- Soda’s and other non-water soft drinks are placed in

especially prominent, at eye level, in the refrigerators.- Water is situated in the back of the bodega. It is not

something that is in the costumers eye field when entering the store.

- the bodega offers a wide array of cheap bears, that are mostly located in the front of the store.

The Atmosphere//- Everybody was very friendly.- Most costumers were men. - You could observe that the people that shop at the J&F bodega

were there everyday. This implies that the bodega is a kind of hang out.

- the bodega is well integrated in the neighborhood community that is located south of Stanton.

- This neighborhood is mostly Puerto Rican or Dominican.

The Tools//- A camera that is small enough

to not get too much attention.

the camera should also have a

video function in order to record

video interviews.- A traditional set of pen and paper

to make quick notes and to write down observations and answers from

the interviews.
